We've narrowed down to 3 first name options for DD due in October, but no idea where to start with middle names!

Our first choice name options are
Eleanor
Harriet
Imogen
Lydia

Any suggestions for middle names?

Agree with all the PPs that say use a family name as the middles, it’s a lovely way to honour and just gives it some meaning :) That being said what about the following @PeopleAreToads

Eleanor Caroline
Eleanor Frances
Eleanor Clarissa

Harriet Olivia
Harriet Isabel/Isabelle
Harriet Joy
Harriet Genevieve

Imogen Alice
Imogen Lily

How about using one of the four which you don’t choose for the first name?
Eg Lydia Harriet

Alwaystired2023 · 19/05/2023 21:32

I think Evangeline would go nicely with all x

Lisbeth50 · 19/05/2023 21:24

Use a name with a family connection. Your name or middle name, your mother's or grandparents. You could also use your surname/ maiden name.

You could also alter them slightly. E.g. Janet could be Janette.

yikesanotherbooboo · 19/05/2023 21:19

I like family names as middle names and, quite like Phyllis!

Londonlady1423 · 19/05/2023 19:30

I feel typically middle names usually have a family connection but you obviously have to like the name too, we went with Nora which is a distant relative but I loved the name. Maybe ask your parents about your family tree and see if there are any names you like

ourflagmeansdeath · 19/05/2023 18:02

Kate seems to go nicely with them all.

A daft as it sounds, Id never considered my own name as a middle name. But I do actually like it, and as @Pemba says it's common to do for boys so could be a option

I hate my own middle name, which is a family name, so have always been against the idea of a family name. But I think that's because we don't have many nice options of family names. I don't think she'd thank me for picking Janet or Phyllis after my grandmother's

Janet is just a form of Jane so you could go for that

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/05/2023 11:30

I think family names or names that have meaning to you are best. No one uses middle names, so they are there to carry meaning I think.

You have plenty of time, and she may end up being a boy.

Of the first names, my favourite is Harriet. The others are nice but will be Ellie, Immy and Lyds, none of which I like.

I'd avoid a one syllable filler middle name, like Rose, Grace, May, Anne, Jane, Joy etc
Why not pick one of your other first names as a middle name, or a family name?

Christmascracker0 · 19/05/2023 10:44

I like Lucy or Grace as middle names. Or would you use either of your mum/aunts/grans names?

pilates · 19/05/2023 10:43

We have the same taste. I love all your names. Would it be nice to use your name or middle name as a middle?
Lydia Elizabeth
Imogen Lucy
Harriet Esme
Eleanor Jane

Constance
Louisa
Catherine
Emma
Hannah

Pemba · 19/05/2023 10:43

OK, but it is quite common for a boy to have his father's name as a middle name. (Or even a first name.) Guess females are a bit less egocentric! But a daughter with your name as a middle would be fine imo (if you like the name of course).

PeopleAreToads · 19/05/2023 10:35

@Coronationstation one syllable, starts with D, goes with almost anything

@Pemba I do like Grace, but agree those are done to death which puts me off

Thanks for the suggestions so far, they've definitely given me some ideas

Ruled a couple out because my own name and middle name have been suggested on the thread already 😂

Eleanor Zara
Harriet Ruby
Imogen Clare
Lydia Kate

Pemba · 19/05/2023 10:30

Or Lucy?

Harriet Lucy or Imogen Lucy would be great, not sure about Lydia Lucy or Eleanor Lucy - too many 'L' s.

Charlotte would also be good, except for with Harriet.

APurpleSquirrel · 19/05/2023 10:24

We used family names as middle names for our DC.
But ultimately it's up to you - just be aware of any problematic initials.
