Came across this and wondered what people's general opinions of it were?

I immediately thought "you're shooting with Althea? Nice shooting!"

Haha! 😆

I think of the quiz in Friends and it's the name of Monica & Ross's grandmother. But definitely an old lady name and not one of the nicer ones. It's a no from me.

I like it.

I've always really loved the name. One of my favourites

user1492757084 · 20/05/2023 10:23

I find Agatha so much more appealing - Aggie is cute too.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 19/05/2023 21:59

Much prefer Alethea - it's softer. For some reason I find the sound of Althea (and similar Anthea) a bit harsh with all that emphasis on the first syllable.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 19/05/2023 21:47

Makes me think of the Chalet School, and also of a nice lady who works at DS's teatime club. I can't quite picture a baby Althea, but I do like the name.

LilyLemonade · 19/05/2023 21:45

I find it a bit old-fashioned and posh (but maybe that's a good thing?). I do really like Anthea about which I could say the same. I like the -th- sound in the middle.

Topazbutterfly · 19/05/2023 17:42

I've not actually heard of the name Althea before but I think it sounds nice. I prefer Anthea but that might just be because I'm more familiar with the name. If you like the name though, I'd use it, there are lots of lovely names that aren't used as much now but they're still lovely names.

TheGriffle · 17/05/2023 21:13

I’ve always like Amalthea from The Last Unicorn, seems to flow better and wouldn’t get confused quite as easily with Anthea.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 17/05/2023 21:09

@LuciferRising I think of Althea Vestrit too. Great character.

I think it is a lovely name.

Immediately thought Friends!

TakeMeDancingNakedInTheRain · 17/05/2023 21:00

If it was written down I'd think it was anthea, it'd probably be misheard as that too. Does sound like a car brand/model though.

Nope.

LuciferRising · 17/05/2023 20:58

A great character in the Live Ship Traders - I think.

Lazyi · 17/05/2023 20:58

Love it so much, but DP did not agree

Runningslow · 17/05/2023 20:58

I thought it was a car as well.

overitunderit · 17/05/2023 20:57

I like it. You could call her Thea for short.

toomuchfaster · 17/05/2023 20:39

I love it and wanted to use it but spelt Althaea with the first ae as a single letter. DH overruled me and I do love DD's name but it's ended up top 10!

arlequin · 17/05/2023 20:17

Sounds like healthier to me

Catlord · 17/05/2023 19:57

I like it because of the grateful dead

ourflagmeansdeath · 17/05/2023 19:51

I agree that it doesn't seem to flow too great. I do really like Thea on its own though.
