This is our list. We've worked on it quite a bit over the past couple of days and we'd like to know what you think.

Ava
Susan
May
Luanna
Beverly
Jane
Shirley
June
Chloe
Luana
Mary
Hope

We like retro-names, but you can be honest if you think they are not ready for a comeback. To us they already sound nice again.

Comment on all names are appreciated, but if you don't have much time just let us know your favourite and least favourite and tell us a bit about why you dislike or like the names.

Favourites are Hope and Susan, least favourite is Mary. We don't have very similar taste I think, so take my comments with a pinch of salt.

Ava - Ava, Ada, Ida, Eva, all merge together for me
Susan - Classic, retro, I find it quite sweet. Like Little Friend Susan from Milly Molly Mandy.
May -Just find it a bit boring, it's used as a middle name so often
Luanna - Sounds like an American country and western singer
Beverly - Just not for me, I don't know why. I like the sound of Everly but adding the B for some reason makes me not like it. Maybe I think of beverages.
Jane -Honestly the most boring name in the entire world
Shirley - I quite like this actually
June - See Jane
Chloe - It was so popular 15 years ago, I can't shake that
Luana - see Luanna
Mary - For some reason I have just never liked this name, I find it drippy
Hope - pretty and strong

Maybe Robin? Joy? Stella?

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 15/05/2023 14:37

wow that’s quite a list. Lots of different styles of names going on there

my fave is June or Mary
the worst is Shirley or May

how do you feel about Jean or Barbara?

Lovemebetter · 15/05/2023 14:37

I think it’s time for plain one syllable names like Jane to replace the sweet cutesie names which have been popular for girls for a long time.

WhoHidTheCoffee · 15/05/2023 14:33

Favourite - Jane or Hope, followed by Ava. Jane is lovely and definitely due a revival.

Least favourite - Luanna and Luana. Not names I’m familiar with and I’m just not keen on the sound.

Bathroomlove · 15/05/2023 14:33

Best: Chloe
Worst: Luanda/Luanna

though I'd NEVER use Susan, but that's for personal reasons.

I don't think the world is ready for a revival of Beverley or Shirley either though.

DucksNewburyport · 15/05/2023 14:32

Favourite - Chloe
Least favourite - Luana/Luanna

SÅ“tr · 15/05/2023 14:31

I like May, June, Hope and Beverly reminds me of old movies:)
Good luck! X

Lovemebetter · 15/05/2023 14:31

I like Hope and Jane is due a comeback. Shirley and Beverley are awful sorry.

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 15/05/2023 14:31

Ava isn't retro. Lots of those about so depends how you feel about your daughter potentially being one of many Ava's of the same age.

I like May - biased as it was my Nan's name but would probably use it as a middle name

Out of your list I'd go with Hope. None of the others really jump at me

Spidey66 · 15/05/2023 14:30

Favourite is Chloe
Least favourites are Susan and Shirley

FortofPud · 15/05/2023 14:30

I rather like Susan actually, Susie for short.

Least fav is Shirley as it makes me think of Shirl from Eastenders.

DandelionPockets · 15/05/2023 14:30

Fave - Chloe or Susan (love Suzie as a nn)
Least - Beverly or Shirley

Treasureboxkey · 15/05/2023 14:29

Ava- nice but popular which would put me off but may not bother you.
Susan- don't like the nickname Sue which feels inevitable.
May- pretty but forgettable and now common as a middle name.
Luanna- don't like, feels cheep.
Beverly- don't like
Jane- dull
Shirley- don't like.
June- really pretty.

Chloe- a bit 90s, not old enough to be cool but pretty enough.
Luana- as above
Mary- cute
Hope- really pretty. I know a gorgeous 3 year old hope and a 90 year old one so it feels timeless to me.

Biscuitea · 15/05/2023 14:29

Fave - June (or Mary)
Least fave - Luanna/Luana (or Beverley)

Raggeo · 15/05/2023 14:28

But not embarrassing*

mouse26 · 15/05/2023 14:26

My favourite is Hope, I think its really classy and cute for a child bit not embarrassing for an adult.

Sorry, but Luanna makes me think of Millhouse's mum on the Simpsons
