What do you think? Anyone ever met a journey? Just heard it the other day

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CadburyDream · 14/05/2023 20:08

I actually didn’t like it when I first heard it but it’s growing on me. There’s worse names at my kids school and people don’t really bat an eyelid anymore

They really do Cadbury dream, please don’t label your kid journey 😳

LysHastighed · 14/05/2023 20:11

It’s surprisingly nice. Story is in a similar vein.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 14/05/2023 20:13

Would you like to be called Journey?
I suggest you change your name to Journey if you like it.

Absolutely awful (not a) name and the suggestion that there are others that are worse is a crap line of thought.

Don’t stop believing.

My thoughts exactly…..🤣

Remember people on mumsnet generally only like names that are at least a million years old!!

I can’t speak for others but personally I like names that are actual names rather than opening the dictionary to a random page and then naming my child the first word I see

Living in a looooonely world

I’ve found my people! “She took the midnight train going anywhere……” 🤣

TrudyProud · 14/05/2023 20:17

@CadburyDream there is an American actress called Jurnee Smollett. Though spelt differently the pronunciation is the same.

I think it sounds lovely and works for her

Purplecatshopaholic · 14/05/2023 20:20

Journey? Oh FFS! It’s not a name - just, no!

It's not my child I'm not pregnant and my youngest is 6

Very Puritan. Travail, PraiseGod and Journey as a sibling set.

Jacopo · 14/05/2023 20:22

Our entire nation seems to be hurtling forward at breakneck speed into a state of terminal idiocy.

The child will smell of wine and cheap perfume.

I’ve got that song in my head now, thanks

clpsmum · 14/05/2023 20:27

@GeraltsBathtub exactly none of us can speak for anyone else. What a boring world it would be if we all thought the same

True but I think I can speak for most people in being glad that my name isn’t journey…

PtarmisanCheese · 14/05/2023 20:57

Names like this will be very dated I think.

BreviloquentBastard · 14/05/2023 21:01

I'm not a fan, to be honest.

Saying that a friend of mine has a son called Wander and at first I thought "oh god woman what were you thinking that's awful". Yet now I know him it suits him so well I can't imagine him being anything other than Wander. He loves it too.

I think Mumsnet tends to be a bit pearl clutchy when it comes to weird names. Sure I prefer traditional or sensible names myself but I've met lots of people with weird names and mostly they just get curiosity or a brief moment of "hey weird name" before everyone moves on.

That one did actually make this tired, old grump laugh Grin

It’s bad enough that every life experience is now labeled a ‘journey’ without taking it a step further and naming a whole new human life ‘Journey’. That’s just taking it far, far too far.

All of life is a journey 😬

Tadpolle · 14/05/2023 22:08

I know someone who named their son "Story". Felt so sorry for the kid.

ThickSkinnedSoWhat · 14/05/2023 22:12

The only thing worse than Journey is when people try to act even more 'unique' and make it 'Journee' or 'Journi' or some other similarly ridiculous spelling.

Elspethelf · 15/05/2023 05:54

I don’t know one personally but I think it’s fine to use as a name. I’m based in America currently and uncommon names are just more common here. I like it
