3 weeks to go and SIL used our name

just that really, expecting DD1 I have always been open about using a sentimental family name for future DD.. SIL was aware as she knows it is a family name
SIL did not know the gender of her baby, baby arrived early hours this morning and announced baby’s name which is a variation of the name I have picked (think Elle / Ella) not the actual names but that’s how similar they are..

what would you do?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Use the name you want but I would make a lighthearted ‘great minds think alike’ type remark

NessieMcNessface · 09/05/2023 19:53

I would use the name I’d already picked even if it was the same name as hers! I would be irritated but would press on with the name I’d decided upon. Congratulations on your imminent birth; call your child the name you love! It appears that you have been very open about your choice of name so you have nothing to feel bad about if anyone grumbles.

This happened to my sister in law with her SIL (her DH’s sister). They had picked out Leila and her SIL named her daughter born 2 weeks before Lila. SIL went ahead with Leila and it’s not an issue. So I say use it!

Aw cute, Ellie and Ella. We've got such similar taste!

Quitelikeit · 09/05/2023 19:49

Pathetic that someone would do this but keep your original name

PinkPlantCase · 09/05/2023 19:49

Use the name

glitterfarts · 09/05/2023 19:49

Congratulations, lovely name. We have similar taste, as you know our dd is Ella.

Use the name you were going to use, she was aware what your name was. Cousins can have the same/similar name.

If she gets upset then ask her why she used the name when she was aware what you'd picked.

CastleTower · 09/05/2023 19:48

Would the babies have the same last name?

I wanted to avoid the same full name as any family member. Same or similar first name for cousins wouldn't bother me.

NuffSaidSam · 09/05/2023 19:48

Use the name you love and were going to use.

It'll be fine in the long term. Remember you're naming someone for 80+ years hopefully, it's not going to matter that she has a similar name to her cousin for many of those years.

WheresTheForum · 09/05/2023 19:48

Use the name you want.

BreathesOutSlowly · 09/05/2023 19:47

Name your baby whatever you like.
