I’ve seen it suggested here but there doesn’t seem to be a thread on this name. What do people think about it?

I’m not sure if it’s too out there for me but I recently started to like it. I see it’s growing in popularity but still outside top 100. Not that that bothers me much.

I love it, (i don't get the poster shop reference) actually considered it for DD

SemperIdem · 15/05/2023 09:36

^doesn’t

SemperIdem · 15/05/2023 09:36

I like it. I was at school with one so it does r seem particularly out there.

SquarePegInRoundHole · 15/05/2023 09:01

I think of the poster shop (RIP 😢) but I'm ancient.

Not keen on it anyway but who cares if other people like it if you do.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 15/05/2023 08:58

I had a cat called Athena Grin

I wouldn't use it on a child, sorry.

MrsSamR · 15/05/2023 08:56

I like it. In a similar vein there is a little girl at my DD's nursery called Artemis which I also love!

FloweryGardener · 15/05/2023 08:45

Poster shop.
I prefer Xanthe.

Elspethelf · 15/05/2023 06:11

Love it! But I did name my son after a Roman god :)

WordOfTheDay · 11/05/2023 03:24

As the first respondent said, it's an awful lot to live up to.

itsserendipity · 09/05/2023 12:15

Love it 🥰

RhymingGuitars · 09/05/2023 12:14

Like others I automatically think of the poster shop.

I prefer Athene, Althea, Artemis or Minerva to Athena, but it's still a nice name.

TheIsleOfTheLost · 09/05/2023 12:04

I like it. The poster shop went bust in 1995, so not an association anyone born now would know. Artemis is good too.

SquigglePigs · 09/05/2023 11:38

I really like it.

17caterpillars1mouse · 09/05/2023 11:33

I quite like it, it seems quite a mature nane, but thats not a bad thing, better than a lot of the overly twee, best suited to a toddler names that are about at the moment

GeraltsBathtub · 09/05/2023 11:26

I like the meaning but not the sound. Minerva is nicer.

Ilovedthe70s · 09/05/2023 11:24

The one I know has always been known as Tina, her choice.

KirstenBlest · 09/05/2023 10:49

A bit long with no obvious shortening.
There are lots of Theos and Theas. and Thea and Athena are a bit similar.
Will get read as Anthea.
A lot to live up to.

Otherwise OK.

Rachel0405 · 09/05/2023 09:01

I love it!

Snugglemonkey · 09/05/2023 08:59

I like it. There used to be one of my year. She was lovely.

RegalWeasel · 09/05/2023 08:42

It's a lovely name.

SallyWD · 09/05/2023 08:35

I quite like it. A similar bane I really love is Althea.

SkankingWombat · 09/05/2023 07:45

It's a lovely name, but a lot to live up to. I know an Adonis, and I always feel a bit sorry for the expectations the name puts on him.

Love the name Athena but my first thought on hearing it is of the poster shop and that picture of the knickerless tennis player.

Me too. But the bare chested man in jeans with a chick (the animal version) on his arm. Takes me straight back to the 1980s.

Athena isn't the worst name I've heard on MN, sounds ok.

Simianwalk · 09/05/2023 06:38

Just makes me think of the classic posters:

  • topless man holding baby
-kitten dangling on a washing line
  • tennis player's bum
