What are your thoughts on the names Eugene and Eugenie? Obviously not for siblings

Love Eugene! Eugenie OK but there are nicer girls names out there

Deadringer · 10/05/2023 14:32

Ugly imo and makes me think of eugenics.

MillieMollieMandy1 · 10/05/2023 12:52

My uncle is Eugene (name after a Pope!). He's 60 and hates it.

ClaraBean · 10/05/2023 12:47

I love Eugene, it was in our top 3 when I was pregnant but we had a dd. If we go for another it will still be one of the top contenders.
Weirdly I don't feel much about Eugenie! It's fine, but I don't love it.

Skybluepinky · 10/05/2023 10:40

Ugly names.

Corkcobain · 09/05/2023 19:35

Not a fan personally but if I had to choose a name along a similar vein it would be Eugenia rather than Eugenie, but I don't really like that either.

BriarHare · 09/05/2023 18:58

They are very ugly names.

ComeTheFuckOnBridgett · 09/05/2023 18:58

Shite names, sorry.

RaininSummer · 09/05/2023 18:53

I find them rather ugly as names to be honest. Sorry.

TomeTome · 09/05/2023 18:37

I don’t like either.

PurpleChrayne · 09/05/2023 18:19

Both awful. They sound like someone vomiting.

They’re both really ugly names. When I was younger I used to feel really sorry for Princess Eugenie that her sister got a nice name and she was stuck with that!

I think it's quite a pretty name, more so than Beatrice which is OK but a bit bland.

Eugene makes me think of somebody who's about 80. I've never heard of a young one. Maybe it will make a comeback at some point, but I don't think it's quite there yet.

Eugenie makes me think of the princess and the multiple pronunciations of her name. E.g. the Royal Family say it something like you-zhuh-nee (I think?) but most of the public will read it phonetically as "You Genie".

I wouldn't choose either of these names personally but it's your decision.

Yes that’s the way the RF pronounce it with emphasis on the first syllable. I remember seeing an article where The Duchess of York and the Princess explain how they pronounce it however the Princess is likely to have come up against many mis-pronunciations in her lifetime. I also like the You Zhay Nee pronunciation with more emphasis on the second syllable but I imagine that’s probably incorrect but I think it sounds pretty 🤷🏼‍♀️ You Genie and You Jenny are both just completely wrong xx

JaneJeffer · 09/05/2023 12:35

Eugene makes me think of Gene Kelly 🕺🏻 and thanks to The Windsors I now say Eugenieaaaa

90stalgia · 09/05/2023 12:21

Eugenie associated strongly with the Princess for me.

Quite like Eugenie, quite posh, obvs

Eugene would just make me think of something like a depressed uncle character in movies like Gilbert Grape.

Strange that they are so different

PickledScrump · 08/05/2023 22:54

Eugene is your stereotypical nerd name from a us show. So not great
Eugenie is even worse

Daffodilwoman · 08/05/2023 22:41

I agree with others.
Eugene= nerd
Eugenie=Princess.

timetorefresh · 08/05/2023 22:38

Horrible sorry

clpsmum · 08/05/2023 22:17

TeenDivided · 08/05/2023 19:42

Eugene makes me think of the 'nerd' from Grease. Eugenie makes me think of the princess. Not over keen on either tbh.

This

fairycupcakes · 08/05/2023 22:06

Eugenie is lovely if pronounced the way Princess Eugenie’s name is and not like Eugene with a y. I have always wondered why the name isn’t popular to be honest and always wonder how the name Beatrice took off yet Eugenie didn’t 🤷🏼‍♀️ And if you name a baby Beatrice people don’t think you’ve named her after the Princess but if you were to name a baby Eugenie they would

WaxingGibbon · 08/05/2023 20:40

Agree with pp they're both ugly names

grishaverse · 08/05/2023 20:38

Eugene is awful and Eugenie is slightly better but it just looks really ugly when written down and it's not the best name either way. Also reminds me of the princess
