We (think) we’re down to our final 2 would love to hear thoughts as baby is due very soon!!!

Alma
Georgiana

Surname is short and a bit unusual starting with a T.

I don’t love the nickname options for Alma but worry Georgiana is a bit long as we all have 4 or 5 letter names in the family.

Georgianna

Or gianna maybe

Nn Gigi

KirstenBlest · 08/05/2023 15:12

Alma - ok
Georgiana - too long. Is it Georgie-A-na, George-A-na, George-aina, Georgie-Anna? Georgina and Georgia seem less fussy

bettyjane · 08/05/2023 07:07

I like both and agree- just keep both as options until after baby is here and see which feels more natural.

I know a lovely Gabriella so also going to suggest that as a similar-ish long G name if you still want other options!

bluebirdsongs · 08/05/2023 07:00

I love alma. Was on my list but husband didn't like it!

AuntieJune · 08/05/2023 06:24

I don't know if it's George-jarna or George-ee-anna

So alma! How about Audrey?

Theoldwoman · 08/05/2023 06:10

Mmm.

Prefer Georgina. NN Georgie.

user1492757084 · 08/05/2023 05:47

Georgiana.
If I were to be called either of those two, I'd prefer it.
I like the flexibility of GiGi, Georgie, George, Ana or Jayna and I like the full pronuciations and meaning - farmer, tiller of the soil.

Alma is sweet and can be Al, Allie or Alma.
It has a lovely meaning - nourishing and kind.

Do you like Alanna?

HuntingoftheSnark · 08/05/2023 05:10

Alma will always remind me of Alma Pudden of St Clare's, although maybe they're not read as much these days. Georgiana is lovely as long as you are ok with Georgie (which I think is also lovely).

Luredbyapomegranate · 07/05/2023 23:35

Georgiana

georgie and Gigi are both nice nns

Alma makes me think of 1950s barmaids and not in a good way

TomatoSandwiches · 07/05/2023 21:14

I have an adopted grandmother called Alma, she is the kindest woman I've met and children have always loved her, I think it's due a come back, so my vote is Alma.

Neither are to my taste so I won’t comment on that. But as you have two I would keep both on the table and wait until she’s here. They’re very different names and you may find one fits more than the other

I agree with this. I thought I had decided on DD's name until I met her, when I realised she was, in fact, her actual name.

I never understood how that could happen until it happened to us. Congratulations on your lovely baby Flowers

ReadtheReviews · 07/05/2023 21:11

Alma is rather dusty, woolly librarian with thick glasses.
Georgiana are you saying it like The Duchess, so Georjayna or saying all four syllables George iana?

thunderandsunshine01 · 07/05/2023 21:09

Alma for me. IMO Georgiana is a bit clunky

MichaelAndEagle · 07/05/2023 21:06

I agree with PP wait until she's here.
We had a first and second choice. I was almost certain she'd get the first name but when she arrived she was 100% the other choice.

JamSandle · 07/05/2023 21:00

Georgiana x

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 07/05/2023 21:00

What about Alba?

out of the two I prefer Georgiana with Georgie for short

Riverlee · 07/05/2023 20:13

Love Georgiana.

RegalWeasel · 07/05/2023 20:11

I know a couple of baby Almas - it has come full circle and sounds very elegant.

Meredusoleil · 07/05/2023 19:33

Alma. Love the meaning of soul in Spanish ❤️

Georgiana is also nice but a bit too much of a mouthful imho.

Prefer Liliana personally.

17caterpillars1mouse · 07/05/2023 19:24

I actually really like both, refreshing choices rather than the usual names repeated on threads here.

I slightly prefer Georgiana but really like Alma too though I imagine Alma is more marmite

PickledScrump · 07/05/2023 18:15

itsabigtree · 07/05/2023 17:51

Prefer Georgiana to alma.

But prefer Georgina overall.

Georgie or GG for a girl is so sweet

Tinytigertail · 07/05/2023 17:47

Alma is lovely! Georgiana, I think, will get mistaken or mispronounced as Georgina, it's just a little frilly for me.

Iamclearlyamug · 07/05/2023 17:41

I love georgiana ❤️❤️

ourflagmeansdeath · 07/05/2023 17:40

Georgiana over Alma definitely. Alma is awful. I do prefer Georgina and Georgia instead, but Georgiana is still lovely and offers tons of nicknames.
