What do we think? Does it fit with the old lady name vibes. What about Sally? I really like them both.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I know a Wendy and a Sally, both in their late forties/early fifties. So they’re not ‘old lady’ enough for me.

XBealtaine · 07/05/2023 17:41

I like Sally. Not a fan of Wendy though but not because it's dated, just because. I like Lindy and Belinda which are equally dated but nicer.
I think names ending in da sound more fashionable than they used to. We're not there yet though, but I like zelda and rhoda.

ourflagmeansdeath · 07/05/2023 17:37

I don't think either of them are great really, Wendy is very Peter Pan and just a bit of a wet name. Sally just seems old-fashioned and can't really imagine it on a little girl.

Can I Borrow Your Potato Peeler??

Sorry. 😂

My first thought too 😂

Floralnomad · 07/05/2023 17:25

Neither are particularly nice .

Rainpuddle · 07/05/2023 17:23

I like Sally! Wendy just seems dowdy to me. Sally seems bright and fresh.

ShoesoftheWorld · 07/05/2023 17:23

Sally's quite nice. Wendy is a no for me - epitome of a made-up name (by the author of Peter Pan, IIRC).

LlynTegid · 07/05/2023 16:59

I'd choose Sally though it is rare nowadays, not Wendy.

twoandcooplease · 07/05/2023 16:51

I like Sally better than Wendy. But Sadie even better if that's an option?

Polzair · 07/05/2023 16:44

Thought of another one. Cindy/Sindy.

dwightschrutebeets · 06/05/2023 19:02

I know an 18 month old Wendy. It seems very odd. I prefer sally but not really a fan of either sordy

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 06/05/2023 19:02

Sorry I don’t like either. I think Wendy is an awful name and Sally is a dogs name. Apologies. Do you have any other names? Susie? Julia? Sylvia? Dorothy?

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 06/05/2023 18:59

I love both but Wendy is my favourite

salamithumbs · 06/05/2023 18:58

I really like Sally! (But might put Sara/Sarah on the birth cert in case the baby doesn't like it when she's older, to give her more choice.)
Really dislike Wendy, sorry, makes me think of the one from Peter Pan who was so wet imo, and also wendy houses. Just sounds somehow prim and twee.

EndsandBegins · 06/05/2023 18:57

Not keen on either. Definitely not Wendy.

Skybluepinky · 06/05/2023 18:53

Any other names?

caringcarer · 06/05/2023 18:39

Not keen on either.

FayCarew · 06/05/2023 18:32

Not keen on Wendy, but Sally is nice. I know a few of them, mostly in their 50s

toastofthetown · 06/05/2023 18:16

Wendy is more in a generation with Susan, Maureen, and Sandra, which is a generation on from the trendy old lady names. Wendy is pretty dreadful to me. Sally is better but still not nice to me (I much prefer Sadie as a diminutive of Sarah).

storminamooncup · 06/05/2023 18:04

wendy will make people think of peter pan, wendy houses etc

also, on MN, it means a bully who joins an existing friendship group and pushes someone out to become top dog. hence the expression "you've been wendied".

Lunabetty · 06/05/2023 18:02

Neither are great

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 06/05/2023 18:00

Sally = lovely
Wendy = no

Snugglemonkey · 06/05/2023 18:00

The connection in my head is Peter Pan. Wendy is lovely.

Madamecastafiore · 06/05/2023 18:00

Can I Borrow Your Potato Peeler??

Sorry. 😂

QueSyrahSyrah · 06/05/2023 17:57

I know one lovely Wendy (who it suits and is not even remotely old lady like) however I know two more that are utterly bonkers and not in the good way, so on balance I'm put off the name.

Sally is pretty.
