What do we think? Does it fit with the old lady name vibes. What about Sally? I really like them both.

I like Maud and Wilf

Not keen on Amelie and Clara, Francesca is a little fussy, and Isobella looks wrong

'But Maude, Wilf etc all sound awful too. Just really unflattering old names. Sounds like the poor kid's arrived aged 80 from birth and inexplicably destined to be a Victorian Londoner all their days.'

Not really into those names either just citing popular old fashioned names. My personal favourite trad girls names ( that I have not used myself) are Isobella, Francesca, Amelie and Clara.

Oh I love the trad names you've mentioned here! They are all gorgeous and I know a child with each of those names (as in children who have the names, not one child with all the names 😄)
Francesca is so pretty!

shoopshoopdedoo · 08/05/2023 16:36

I really like Wendy!

CabbageKale · 08/05/2023 15:03

I wish my parents had called me Wendy. Said no one ever!

Catastrophejane · 08/05/2023 14:47

I don’t think Wendy and Sally are old enough to be fashionable again yet.

kids born now will be calling their kids names like Sally, Wendy, Deborah, Susan , Julie etc.

they are just middle aged women at the mo.

SequinDiscoBiscuits · 08/05/2023 14:45

I have a relative called Wendy, in her late 60's.
Was a modern name in the early 50's, but actually the more I read it the stranger it sounds 😂
Definitely can't imagine a baby, toddler or teen with the name.

StillWantingADog · 08/05/2023 14:40

I think Sally is a classic

Wendy is IMO dated. I know a few who are all 50-70.

iwantabasketbag · 08/05/2023 14:38

It's not old lady cool, I'm 43 and went to school with Wendy's. I prefer Sally

BigFatMummyOnTheCeiling · 08/05/2023 14:38

Wendy I’d put with Sharon, Tracy, lynn, Beverley type names of the 70s

Sally is more along the lines of Nicola, Kelly, Samantha, Jody of the 80s

i don’t mind either and wouldn’t bat an eye if there was one in my daughters nursery

Reminds mr of being a Wendy.

Sorry I don't like either they sound old fashioned but not in the way that rejuvenated names like Edith and Maud do - a bit like calling a boy Gary or wayne rather than Albert or Wilf. Bit more naff than retro.

Wendy? Seriously that is awful. Sally is dreadful too, a really drippy name.

BooksAndHooks · 08/05/2023 08:34

I like both. I’ve always liked Wendy, maybe because all the ones I knew growing up were lovely and definitely not old laddies.

waterlego · 08/05/2023 08:31

Seems I’m with the majority: no to Wendy, yes to Sally!

Just had a count up and I reckon I know about 8 Sallys. Age range from 30 up to nearly 80.

AuntieJune · 08/05/2023 08:30

I quite like both. Sally reminds me of the home and away character but I can't imagine that would be a hindrance!

How about Penny, Lindsay, jenny

Scotskynon · 08/05/2023 08:24

I prefer Sally to Wendy

LadyJ2023 · 08/05/2023 01:44

Sally is lovely. Wendy I think of fries and chicken lol

Daisybuttercup12345 · 08/05/2023 00:59

Both very dated.

Luredbyapomegranate · 07/05/2023 23:52

Really don’t like either.. they seem so mousy and small. But - they are probably on the horizon for a revival.

FayCarew · 07/05/2023 18:00

@ShoesoftheWorld , did you get that from a baby name site? They're not reliable. The actress Wendy Craig is a Gwendoline.

ShoesoftheWorld · 07/05/2023 17:56

StarboysMum · 07/05/2023 17:53

I always thought Wendy was a diminutive of Gwendoline.

Had a quick google and you may be right! Also some records of it being a male name or a diminutive of Wendelin (also male). I take the 'made-up name' thing back (still not keen on the name, though).

FayCarew · 07/05/2023 17:55

@StarboysMum , it was invented for Peter Pan and is from 'friendy-wendy'

StarboysMum · 07/05/2023 17:53

ShoesoftheWorld · 07/05/2023 17:23

Sally's quite nice. Wendy is a no for me - epitome of a made-up name (by the author of Peter Pan, IIRC).
