Gypsy is fine. I have a great friend called Gypsy.

The most ridiculous one I've come across was a Spanish kid whose mum was a bit of a fan of hollywood movies. He was called Kevincostner. All one word.

girlandboy · 30/07/2008 21:14

I know of a little girl called Rebel

fizzbuzz · 30/07/2008 21:08

I've taught an Armani too, and a Blue and a Red. Also a Sapphire and an Angel..........

frazzledoldbag34 · 30/07/2008 21:07

Pebbles

LadyJogsAlot · 30/07/2008 21:01

i have taught: armani, annikan, blessing and chanel!

Ocean could be a mis hearing of Osian- which is a not unusual given name in Wales. I went to school with a boy called Osian and never once considered it odd.

scotagm · 30/07/2008 20:43

Heard Ocean for the first time yesterday - a toddler in the next garden. Never heard it before.

Teach a Rainbow and I kid you not, someone described her as a "colourful character".

TheCrackFox · 29/07/2008 19:57

I know and Ocean who must be about 15 now. I also know a little girl called Blue and it really suits her. Ds1 goes to school with a boy called Carllito.

ClareVoiant · 29/07/2008 19:51

i hadn't heard the name ocean before my friend called her daugher it. at first i thought it was a bit way-out-there but now its a normal name, you kinda get acclimatised when you see them everyday.
apparently my friend was just toying with the name, but when the baby was born her dh knocked on all the doors to spread the news that the baby had been born, and she was called ocean, so they sort of just went with it. ocean will be 3 tomorrow and the name really suits her.
Also came across another 'ocean' in a shop in mevagissy, who must have been about the same age.
unusual names seem to be like busses, you don't know one for ages then 2 come along at once

OurHamsterisevil · 29/07/2008 17:51

There was a boy at DS1's nursery called Quaid, also a Mackay (said mack-eye)ALso DN has middle name Bluestar

MrsSylar · 26/07/2008 21:34

I have come across a Tia Maria, a Tionree (an homage to Thierry Henri I think) a Deandray (pronounced Day - ondray)and a Cevell.

Is this a creative outlet for some parents, do you think?

ButterflyMcQueen · 26/07/2008 21:22

the worst i have ever heard is Clint

zwiggy · 26/07/2008 21:20

is the name 'duran' or 'brother duran'? I quite like brother duran, I should like to call a found/lost cat this

EachPeachPearMum · 26/07/2008 21:16

I know of children named Starsky, Little Twinkle, Dusty (a boy!), Cruise, loads of others.
Ocean is actually reasonably common- ie not just 2 in UK.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 24/07/2008 15:15

madamez · 24/07/2008 15:05

Well my DS is called Victory John so you can all knob off.

bikerunski · 24/07/2008 14:58

I know a Buster. He must be about 15 now.
My sister's middle name is Harmony, which is far prettier than mine, which is Liguanea (Li ga nee). Just as well my first name is nice and traditional!

DeeRiguer · 24/07/2008 10:35

Sure enough, there was an Ikea born in the UK, but it was more than three years ago.

Linda Dagless, who was 26 at the time, named her fourth daughter after the furniture store in May 2002.

At the time, she told her local paper in Norwich: "I was pregnant, sitting on the sofa with my boyfriend and trying to think of a name for the little girl I was going to have when I noticed the Ikea advert.

"I saw the name Ikea and thought it would make a nice name for my baby.

"I have seen the Ikea adverts on the telly and in magazines and thought they always had nice furniture, but I've never been to the shop. I'm now planning to go there with my mum."

You can guess where I live can't you?

princessglitter · 24/07/2008 10:30

There was a boy called Red at dd1's nursery and a little girl called Ocean at toddler group.

We had to sing the goodbye song at the end and I had to try and keep a straight face whilst singing: 'Goodbyeee Ocean...'

Fimbo · 24/07/2008 10:28

There is a child named Ikea somewhere in Britain (read about it in the paper)

clairebear88 · 24/07/2008 10:24

Hi

I just wish I had the guts to name my child something wacky as some of them are pretty ( ocean /atlanta )
A friend of a friend has called her little girl Truly scrumptious ( honestly ) sad thing is she is a twin and the other girl has a normal name. If your gonna go for it I think all your kids have to follow suit

Spidermama · 24/02/2008 21:04

I love Tiger Lilly.
Atlanta is a fine name and I have known two.
I'm not keen on the others but I don't hate them and I'd rather have a Gypsy than a Chloe and a Duran than a Jack.

Each to her own though eh?
