Patrick, Christopher or Marcus?

Hi!

Looking for a little help and opinions - we are having a surprise and we have decided definitely on our girl name and completely agree.

Now for the boys! I really love Patrick but DH says he doesn’t mind it (is less keen) and we both don’t like the Pat/Paddy nicknames. We both have Irish ancestry and it was my late grandad’s middle name which I think is lovely.
Christopher and Marcus I like a lot, DH really likes Marcus - he slightly prefers Marc but it’s too short with our surname.
But I can’t get over my love of the name Patrick!

His middle name would be David.

Any help? 😊 TIA!

I prefer Marcus. The other two seem a bit dated (even though I'm sure plenty people will tell me they're "classic") and I don't like any of the shortened forms of them.

Ellmau · 08/05/2023 18:36

Patrick is a great choice.

ourflagmeansdeath · 07/05/2023 17:39

Marcus David is lovely, and I really like Christopher too. Not keen on Patrick at all.

@AussieKoala , @sevenbyseven , Kit has soared in popularity
Babies called Kit in England & Wales since 1996 (darkgreener.com)
Babies called Christopher in England & Wales since 1996 (darkgreener.com)

I only know one adult Kit (Christopher) and one little boy (just Kit), but it is much loved on here, and it's probably one of those names that are more popular in some areas.

Thanks for the link 🙂 i think it's a great name

DuchessOfSausage · 07/05/2023 12:38

@CurlewKate , when the name is on a steep curve upwards, it could turn out to be very popular where you live, or it could become extremely popular very quickly. Sometimes names can go from the top 150 to being in the top 50 in a year.

@BHRK , you can try, but you can't stop everyone.

CurlewKate · 07/05/2023 08:38

@BHRK Or never shorten it yourself and let the owner of the name and other people do what they want!

BHRK · 07/05/2023 06:54

Patrick is the nicest, just never shorten it yourself and don’t allow other people to

CurlewKate · 07/05/2023 06:53

Incidentally- it's important to remember that when the name Kit is said to be "soaring in popularity" it means that out of around 400000 baby boys born a year, 330 will be called Kit. So much less than 1 in every 1000.

XBealtaine · 07/05/2023 06:50

Patrick or Marcus
Christopher is a bit more dated sounding (to me)

CurlewKate · 07/05/2023 06:47

Great choice!

SoPrettyVacant · 06/05/2023 21:51

Hi everyone

Thank you so much for all of your inputs - we’re going to stick with Patrick if it’s a boy, although we might change our mods again once he’s here, haha!

Thank you to everyone who replied, really appreciate it! x

Patrick David is the most handsome.
Call him Patrick or Tricky

Next I love Christopher David - Chris or Christo or Christoph

Marcus does remind me of Marc..arse however I like the names Mark David or Mark Patrick or Mark Fitzwilliam (Mr Darcy like).

Surprised about Kit being overused - do you mean IRL or on mumsnet?

Likewise! I don't think I've ever met a Kit, old or young.

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/05/2023 22:02

I love Patrick, most of the ones I know are just called Patrick.

Marcus is nice, Christopher is too, but Chris is so dull, and Kit getting v overused, Christy is nice though.

Patrick is good.

If Marcus is dubious, what about Marius?

I adore Patrick. It’s such a great name - works for an adult or a kid. Love it. And I also adore Paddy.

DoNutSweatTheSmallStuff · 04/05/2023 21:28

Love Marcus too!

Katherine1985 · 04/05/2023 21:20

Love Marcus

MsFrog · 04/05/2023 21:03

Another one here who has a Patrick, and it's never shortened. David is a lovely choice as well 🙂

LizzieBet14 · 04/05/2023 21:01

I chose Patrick as a middle name so nobody could shorten it....
I ended up choosing a name where I didn't mind the shortened version but nobody uses it! It's hard to second guess what people will do (& most of all the child themselves!!)

anormalperson · 04/05/2023 20:54

Love Patrick, Christopher is nice too, not a fan of Marcus.

ladygindiva · 04/05/2023 20:51

I love Patrick, was on my list but never had a boy. I knew a Patrick that was nicknamed Patch, if your DH prefers that? I think it's cool. Marcus is a very nice name too though.

Gentlemenplease · 04/05/2023 20:47

Patrick. I have one and it has never once been pat or paddy by anybody.

You love the name so use it! You can't let yourself worry about what people may or may not call him. But paddy isn't a word that his peers will use I almost certain of it.
