Teddy was the 26th most popular name for boys in 2021 (the ONS haven’t released baby names data for 2022 yet).

So quite popular, yes. There’s one or two Teddy’s at my DC’s primary school.

I know a 8 year old Ted (Edward)

Beatlonliness8 · 03/05/2023 09:05

My children have known three over the last few years, I’d say it’s popular (London suburbs).

But if you like it, why not? I think it’s a great name. I like Edward as a name for Teddy.

Skybluepinky · 03/05/2023 08:57

Yes very popular at the min, in 3 years time preschools and nursery will have loads.

dwightschrutebeets · 03/05/2023 08:55

@CalloohCallayFrabjousDay teddy bear 😂🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

dwightschrutebeets · 03/05/2023 08:54

It's a name I see alot on baby charts but not in real life. I'm SW and have yet to meet one. I know a lovely Ted and a teddy but they're in London and are 1 and 5

BreviloquentBastard · 03/05/2023 08:54

Very, I know three already. My sister works in healthcare and deals with a lot of deliveries and newborns as part of her job, says there's a new little Teddy entering the world every week. I think in a couple of years nurseries and schools will be full of them.

BuffaloCauliflower · 03/05/2023 08:53

Theodore/Theo/Ted/Teddy all massively popular

sunshineandmango · 03/05/2023 08:52

The one I know is Theodore so this also works well if you want a longer name as an alternative to Edward

PickledScrump · 03/05/2023 08:51

There is a lot. There’s also a lot of edwards, Theodores and even a Tobias who have teddy as a nn.

Lcb123 · 03/05/2023 08:49

Yes come across a few but think about an adult with that name

CalloohCallayFrabjousDay · 03/05/2023 08:49

As long as they are Edward and just Teddy as a nickname. I know someone who has used Teddie on the birth certificate and their actual name is Teddie Bear 😶

sunshineandmango · 03/05/2023 08:47

I know of one but think it’s a lovely name, wouldn’t let the popularity put you off :)

febbabies2023 · 03/05/2023 08:35

We're in the south east and I know a few / there's a few in my sons nursery

Marcipex · 03/05/2023 08:35

Edward is lovely and he can be called Eddie or Teddy.
Teddy on its own is a bit wet imo and increasingly used for girls.

Roselilly36 · 03/05/2023 08:35

Very popular, I know a few Teddies.

QueenGorilla · 03/05/2023 08:34

Aware of a few of both sexes.

yumscrumfatbum · 03/05/2023 08:33

My daughter is studying in early years and works across various settings. Lots of Teddys. We re in the South West.

BHRK · 03/05/2023 08:29

No they’re not round here, I love it too. But you could call him Edward with Teddy as a nickname. Then he has choices as he gets older. It’s a nice name for a five year old, but is it for a 50 year old man?
