So my son is almost 6 weeks and naming him has been impossible.
We've finally settled on Jasper for his first name but he still has no middle name and I'm out of time. He has to be registered tomorrow!
We don't have a family name to use.
We have a few ideas but nothing I am 100% on
I like Eddie, kids like Harry, Husband likes Nicholas.

What is the perfect middle name for Jasper?????

Jasper James and Jasper Edward are both fantastic!

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 02/05/2023 10:04

Jasper Nicholas: That's nice. Does it go with your surname?

Eddie = it seems very nickname-y. I dislike it. Jasper Edward unfortunately makes me think of Twilight (I guess that depends on one's age and definitely won't be an issue for this generation).

Jasper Harry sounds really good as well. Yet again, does it go with the surname?

I would probably use the kid's suggestion in your case. I was the one to suggest my little sister's first name (family name, fairly traditional). I was so incredibly pleased when they picked it!

Ladysquamy · 02/05/2023 08:40

I think you should only use a middle name if it has meaning for you. Otherwise there is no point. My two girls have a grandmother's name each as their middle name. I just thought it was a nice way to remember the grannies.

All three are handsome.
Jasper Nicholas 10/10
Jasper Edward 9/10
Jasper Harry 8/10 - I hear Jass Parry

Also consider Jasper Charles 10/10

If you're not bothered, I'd let the kids pick. They'll be so proud

As a youngest child, I'd really advise strongly against this I'd have been furious if my older siblings had named me. I would never have gotten over it. A random name would be better. Jasper James. Jasper Claude. Jasper Alexander. Anything.

Jasper is a great name. Congratulations on your new son!

This. Middle names are rarely used. If you don't have one in mind don't force it.

You can't give middle names to some of the kids and it others.

FatGirlSwim · 01/05/2023 23:45

Jasper Harry is lovely and special to have a name given by siblings. My youngest dd has a middle name that siblings chose and she loves it.

Jasper Milo
Jasper Rowan
Jasper Theo
Jasper Riley
Jasper Henry
Jasper Toby
Jasper Edward

Why do you need a middle name? Just curious. None of mine have any.

This. I understand familial middle names, which my own child has, but I've never understood the need for middle names otherwise. Especially picked at random from a MN post within hours of registering.

Rightnowstraightaway · 01/05/2023 23:34

You don't need one but of those options I think Eddie doesn't flow, and Nicholas with Jasper makes me think of Christmas (Wise man and Santa). So I'd use Harry.

But if looking at other options I like Jasper with David, Ray, Sky and alliterative J names like John and James.

AssertiveGertrude · 01/05/2023 23:27

Jasper Is lovely and I don’t think you need a middle name but if you did I would go for something simple like Sam or Ben

fairycupcakes · 01/05/2023 23:23

Aww I think your older children would be thrilled if you went with Jasper Harry ❤️

Treasureboxkey · 01/05/2023 23:11

Oh, I like a middle name. I always feel a bit sad for people who don't have one. I don't know why.

It really does depend on surname though, how many syllables and what is the first letter?

Hellocatshome · 01/05/2023 23:08

No need to shoehorn a random middle name in, perfectly acceptable not to have one.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 01/05/2023 23:06

Jasper on its own is lovely, middle names are pointless imo unless some family connection, apart from my passport I have never used mine.
