How many Ninas do you know, how old are they and is their name shortened from a longer name?

I think the name uncommon, my husband thinks they are everywhere, I think it’s timeless, he thinks it’s recently resurged, I think it’s fine on its own, he thinks it’s always a diminutive of something longer.

I know two. Both that's there full name. One is 39 and the other is 40. Great name that I would have used if I hadn't been close to one of the Nina's mentioned.

SummerSazz · 29/04/2023 11:12

I love it

DH didn't want it as it was the name of one of Christopher Columbus's ships Confused

We had a very long debate over baby names as you might imagine 😄

maranella · 29/04/2023 11:10

Two - one is 15 and the other is 12.

Both are called Nina (not shortened from anything).

LivingNextDoorToNorma · 29/04/2023 11:08

I can only think of one. She’s 3, and it’s her full name.

lemonyellows · 29/04/2023 11:07

I knew one when we were kids, but no one else since

Berlinlover · 29/04/2023 11:06

I know one - she’s 49.

Curtainpoles · 29/04/2023 10:58

I know one, I don't think it is short for anything.
I think it's a fabulous strong name personally, really like it.

Bbq1 · 29/04/2023 10:58
  1. One is about 40, the other is 12.
Skybluepinky · 29/04/2023 10:57

I know 5, 1 is a rabbit, 2 are little yappy dogs, 1 is a 75 year old and the other is in their 80’s.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 29/04/2023 10:50

shortanddumpy · 29/04/2023 10:43

One. In her 30s

Muffit · 29/04/2023 10:40

I know 2 Ninas. They are both great women, one is 54, and one is 25.

JesusSendFloods · 29/04/2023 10:34

It's a beautiful uncommon name, I know two, one was in her eighties and one is 24. My mum and my eldest DD. DD was the only Nina in her school and then in at the uni. It can be shortened to Nin, Nini or expanded to Ninotchka(Russian affectionate diminutive). St Nina was a Georgian Queen who brought Christianity to her country.

Luredbyapomegranate · 29/04/2023 10:31

One who is about 40 - short for Janina, and a couple of babies.

I think it’s fine but insubstantial so better as short for something. Traditionally it was a pet form of Anna or female diminutive names in E Europe.

It does seem to be having a resurgence.

Spring2008 · 29/04/2023 10:27

Oh I did know one. She was a toddler back in 2000 when I used to take my eldest to playgroup, so will be early 20's now.
Her full name was Christina, but she went by Nina.

Spring2008 · 29/04/2023 10:25

I'm wracking my brains, but I honestly don't think I've ever met one in person.
Only in books or on television.

Nimbostratus100 · 29/04/2023 09:42

I knew a few, but they only used the name as babies and toddlers. To me it is a baby name, like "Johnny" for John, and ""Billy" or "Willsy" for william. It is n't a name an adult uses.

They are Georgina, Martina, etc, and either use their full names, or a less babyish nick name as an adult. "Gina" "Geen" "Marta" "Tina" etc

ChrissyHynde · 29/04/2023 09:35

I know one , she's about 13. I love the name

salamithumbs · 29/04/2023 09:31

I know three, two are just called Nina and they're 8 and 40ish I think.. the other is 15 and it's short for Maria Francesca ... not sure whether the Nina part came from but there you go! She's Italian, the other two are Irish.

Wallywobbles · 29/04/2023 09:22

I have one. She knows 7.

17caterpillars1mouse · 29/04/2023 08:31

I know 3

1 in her 50s, 1 late 30s and a 1 year old

Merrow · 29/04/2023 08:10

2 - one must be in her 70s now and the other is 6. Both their full name.

MrsSamR · 29/04/2023 08:09

My friend actually named her baby Nina the year before last so she's now 1. I remember thinking at the time it was a name I hadn't heard in a while!

HouseofHolbein · 29/04/2023 08:03

CarrotSoupwithCheese · 29/04/2023 08:02
