Nina - how many do you know

How many Ninas do you know, how old are they and is their name shortened from a longer name?

I think the name uncommon, my husband thinks they are everywhere, I think it’s timeless, he thinks it’s recently resurged, I think it’s fine on its own, he thinks it’s always a diminutive of something longer.

I don't know any.

Amadeaa · 29/04/2023 15:29

It’s a popular stand-alone name in Germany, and I also know a Scandinavian Nina

cheapskatemum · 29/04/2023 15:25

I know 2:
One in her 50s
One in her 60s
Both very different but nice.

Nyancat · 29/04/2023 14:42

Work in primary, know about 4, all reception, p1 age.

TippledPink · 29/04/2023 14:31

I know one, my sons 17 year old girlfriend. Her parents are Danish and American.

Strictly1 · 29/04/2023 14:28

1 and she’s 5

TrueScrumptious · 29/04/2023 14:11

Only one, aged 25. She’s Italian.

RealLife101 · 29/04/2023 14:09

I know two. One an older woman, maybe 75, and one in her forties. Both just Nina.

I think it’s beautiful and timeless.

Squirrelsnut · 29/04/2023 14:08

One in her 50s of Italian descent.

SkaneTos · 29/04/2023 14:07

Nina is a pretty name!
I know one woman named Nina, she is 45 years old.
I also know a dog named Nina, a Belgian Shepherd.

LaviniasBigBloomers · 29/04/2023 14:00

I suspect at least some of the early 30's women are named after Nina in Truly, Madly, Deeply - one of my favourite films. Nina was a gorgeous character played by Juliet Stevenson. I've loved it ever since and it would have been on my list if it had gone a bit better with our second name.

I actually don't know any irl, the Christinas I know get Tina. Go for it, it's gorgeous.

CordylineHair · 29/04/2023 13:47

One. She is 17.

A beautiful girl with a beautiful name.

ourflagmeansdeath · 29/04/2023 13:43

It's lovely! Just 1, and it's her full name and she's around 30ish I'd say? It's not common where I am at all.

SallyWD · 29/04/2023 11:50

One who's in her 40s

RestingMurderousFace · 29/04/2023 11:42

I know one, she’s 30 and fabulous.

CC4712 · 29/04/2023 11:36

I know 1 in her early 40's. Not shortened from another name- just Nina. I like it.

Thelazygardener · 29/04/2023 11:36

Just one, and her name is actually Karina shortened to Nina, she’s 30.

I think it’s a lovely name and I don’t think it’s very common at all.

LauderSyme · 29/04/2023 11:34

I've only ever met one Nina, am guessing she would be in her late thirties now. Nina wasn't a diminutive in her case.

Jewelanemone · 29/04/2023 11:34

I work with one, she's 50, not British and she's absolutely lovely!

Epicstorm · 29/04/2023 11:33

Don’t know any and I’ve never taught one.

Paddypartypower · 29/04/2023 11:33

@Squamata

Funny, I know two and they’ve always been quite fat and ginger. I know that sounds horrid but it’s true and I think the name accentuates that too 🤦‍♀️. Is there some sort of Irish connection? As bizarre how both the ones I know have red hair.

TiredOfCleaning · 29/04/2023 11:30

Three - One aged late 50s. One aged 21 and one aged 13.
I like the name very much

kitsuneghost · 29/04/2023 11:29

Makes me think of Coronation Street

Squamata · 29/04/2023 11:24

I know one, a six year old. I like the name but the child is quite petite and mousy - I always find it sort of accentuates that somehow.

littleburn · 29/04/2023 11:20

One when I was at school. She'd be 48 now!
