Hi there

We are expecting our first baby soon. We live in wales and though I am English DH is welsh (not welsh speaking) and thought as baby would be born in wales be nice to have a welsh name. However, we want something we can pronounce and spell.

We are having a surprise and set with the girls name Elinor.

We have told family we like the boys name Huw but have had mixed reactions. Anymore welsh boy names ideas that are easy to pronounce.

Thank you!

My favourite boys name is Emrys. Easy to spell and say. I also like Rhys but it’ll end up always pronounced like Reece and I really don’t like that. Idris is nice and simple too.

Rhydian, Rhys, Rhodri, Ioan, Evan, Macsen, Aled. I like Huw though - I know a fab one who's about 12.

Thanks, but that doesn't narrow it down much. Are you in an area where you don't hear much Welsh?

iatealltheminieggs · 28/04/2023 10:04

Thank you some great suggestions!
I like wyn
Yes Dylan we thought would cause an issue I say it the English way and DH says it the welsh way.
I still really like Huw but was told "it's a bit old man like" but then most names in fashion are these days such as Arthur and Charles ect

Love Elinor! My half-Welsh DD is Enid.

For boys I liked Rhys, Wyn, Idris and Rhodri.

Stormystar · 28/04/2023 07:54

Congratulations! Dafi is a nice welsh name, as is Cai, Penri, Rhys, Bobi.

HairyToity · 28/04/2023 07:53

Love the name Huw.

Dylan's a confusing one as Welsh and English pronunciations are different.

Others that I like:

Lloyd
Aled
Tomos

millypeggyandpandora · 28/04/2023 07:50

I like Dylan, Lewis and the more unusual Bedo
