Eve or Eva?

One last voting please!
Which do you prefer between Eve, Eva and our current forerunner Flora?

Not unduly concerned about the popularity of Eve names at the moment, which we appreciate is high.

Many thanks for your valued opinions

Thanks guys, everyone’s opinions have been really helpful. Although we really like Eve and Eva, we have now ruled them out as we love the other two names just that bit more! Back to our original dilemma of Heidi vs Flora. Thanks again :)

@Bax765 thank you. I only know of one Eva also. Your daughter has a beautiful name :)

It is a beautiful name but if a teacher was saying Evie Eve Eva Ava to the same class it would be confusing...it's the worst case scenario I know

DD's middle name is Eve, she's 23.

DH's daughter is called Genevieve - took her ages to learn to spell that!

My mum wanted to call me that in the early 60s but my dad vetoed it...I got to appreciate it as an adult but as a kid I was greatful. Don't think the film helped 😬

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 30/04/2023 13:34

Flora by a million zillion miles. Heidi is lovely too.

Whatdayisitalexa · 29/04/2023 21:22

Flora

some people really think giving their kid an edgy name is going to turn them into non-conformist mavericks.

bless.

I have an Eva, so I might be slightly biased but I love the name.

Our Eva is the only one in her school. In fact, I've just had a look at UK baby name stats and it hasn't entered the top 20 list at all (I only went back 10 years), so I think people might be exaggerating the popularity slightly...

I think you're right not to worry about popularity and just choose the name you love!

Flora or Fleur

Eve and Eva are tepid dullsville and there should be a limit on the number of them (and their variants) so that children don't die from conformity viruses.

Nice. I have an Eva, and she's unique and a non conformist, and doesn't need a certain name to stand out from the crowd, she does that on her own merit.

pancakesandpepsi · 28/04/2023 20:21

@IamnotwhouthinkIam thank you for your balanced view point. Although popularity is a small factor (and clearly Eve/Eva are currently much more popular than Heidi/Flora) our most important consideration is which name we like the best! So we wouldn’t let popularity alone stop us from picking an Eve- style name if we decide it’s our favourite :)

I guess I'm the odd one out in that I like both Eve and Eva (and Evie, Evelyn, Ava...) - they all have a pretty sound with that "V" (I like Stevie and Sylvie/Sylvia etc too).

But even though I like them all, the only "Ev"/Av" name I'd actually use personally would be Eve (possibly with the nn Evie at home, but definitely not formally unless she wanted).

Unfortunately any name that has risen very rapidly into the top 20 or so is a no no for me as it is almost certain to date (badly or not, sadly only time would tell). But Eve thankfully has risen far less in the UK compared to the others.

It's a shame in some ways as popular Eva is much more classic internationally, but Eve does have the bonus of an extra sort of cool feel imo- I think it's the sci-fi/fantasy element, or simple palindrome thing.

Having said that, to me both Eve and Eva equally also have a kind of elegant, grown up, sensuality to them (that can be made "cute" instead by the Evie nn) and if you really don't care about popularity at all, then I don't think you can go wrong with either choice.

TheaBrandt · 28/04/2023 13:39

My friends with Eves (there are several) have name regret as they hadn’t realised how mentally overused it is. Cannot believe more Eves are still being born!

dwightschrutebeets · 28/04/2023 13:37

Flora

Is this the 4th thread now? It felt like more.

Brilliant! 🤣

I was told some ancient song would be a blight on my dds life but in 14 years it has never been mentioned

pancakesandpepsi · 28/04/2023 13:00

@TheaBrandt true, definitely no concerns regarding the old advert and less than ideal historical slogan, it’s just a concern if the general association with the spread would lead to name calling/jibes in the playground.

TheaBrandt · 28/04/2023 12:40

Floras lovely that silly advert is ancient the youngsters will know nothing about it

Mummyof287 · 28/04/2023 12:38

Flora crossed my mind when pregnant with DD2, I love it as its pretty but unusual, but I couldn't shake the thought of the spread connotations!

Eva I think is much cuter and modern than Eve x

DuchessOfSausage · 28/04/2023 12:37

@InceyWinceySpidy , Evie started to get popular in the mid 00s, and was #10 by 2008. Add to that the Eves and Evelyns known as Evie.

TheaBrandt · 28/04/2023 12:36

Errr it flipping was?! Why is every other 16 year old girl called Eve/Evie/Eva then! That name is officially full.

InceyWinceySpidy · 28/04/2023 11:41

TheaBrandt · 28/04/2023 06:10

When we registered dd1 for 6th form as we sat down the teacher said “Eve? Evie? Eva? We said no not of those his response “worth a try pretty much every other girl this morning has been named one of those names ”

That's an interesting anecdote because it wasn't popular 16yrs ago.
