If you knew / met someone who had just had a baby would you tell them you didn't like it's name ?

I am just wondering. Since dd was born 4 weeks ago we have had lot's of people comment on her name. Both close family and friends.
Fair enough if it isn't what you would choose but i could never say to someone i don't like your choice after they have called their child that.
We have had plain ooh i don't like that to omg that's a name of a 90 year old woman.
Poor dp who chose it and now i am thinking poor dd !
By the way it's Martha!

People are so rude, I think name choice is really personal and I would never dream of critising anyones choice, and anyway children always grow into their name and by the time they are 1 you cant imagine them being called anything else.

My sil was really rude about our choice of a girls name when I was pregnant and I was really upset, so much so that I couldnt have used it, he was a boy so it didnt matter, but even so it still annoys me thinking of it now. When she had her little boy she chose a name that I thought was really boring and old, but I never said anything (of course) and now it suits him and I like it (a bit)

Thanks everyone as dp has said just ignore them but i really feel like shouting FGS Don't be so bloody rude!
However i won't and will just grit my teeth throught the comments and suppose they will get less as they 'get use to it'

I dont know any 90 yearold women called Martha? Ignore their rude comments I think its lovely and different.

hatrick - hope you told your friend she would be doing your DD a favour. Who the hell would want to work for a company that had such a ridiculous attitute displayed by it's recruitmant staff??

lilyloo - close family can be really insensitive at times IME but I would expect more sense from my friends. Both my DDs names were 'rejected' by my father and I got 'you can't call her that it's too girly' etc etc. .

btw, I think Martha is a lovely name (I really do). I love Margot for a girl but DH says no way. DC3 is going to be a boy anyway, if he ever starts cross dressing I'll suggest Margot as his alter-ego's name

What a rude thing to do.As someone said, Martha is a name that was popular about 100 years ago and is making a comeback, so maybe some people still associate it with the past. But even so, that's no excuse for rudeness

DD was almost Martha, she is an Edith instead which is far more old ladyish lovely name, not so lovely people making comments, difficult I know but ignore

I once met a glumdalclich, and thought that was an appalling name to give your child, but I never said so as it was none of my business and I didn't have to live with it

My friends ds has a very .. errr unusual name, I actually don't like to say it I consider it that awful BUT I wouldn't say a word to her about it.

Why would you, what do you possibly gain, other than upsetting a friend, its not like they'll say damn yes you're absolutely right and change the child's name by deed poll.

Martha is lovely BTW

If I ever have a DD she will be a Martha (DP permitting) - I think it's a lovely name.

Maybe your relations associate it with older women - my granny (long deceased) was a Martha. I think it's one of those names that was in fashion 80-100 years ago, went out of fashion, and has now emerged again. Bloody rude of people to comment though.

Thanks ! Just thought i was being over sensitive.
I really don't care whether they like it or not but agree it is rude to say it and tbh family have been worse.
The classic line we get now is 'well i am getting use to it'

Oh hadn't noticed it was Martha, it's a LOVELY name, dd was nearly Martha.
