Polly, Beatrice…?

For some reason these names keep popping into my head, although DH isn’t convinced!

How do you feel they compare to our current forerunners of Flora and Heidi?

Thank you

To me it feels like Polly or Heidi will appeal to one set of people. Beatrice and Flora to another.

You could give her three names? to include two favourites and a family name.

You could also think about her in all the decades after you name her. She's not going to be a baby for long, but an adult for a very long time.

Personally I'd rather go through life as a Beatrice and its shortenings. Not thrilled at the idea of Flora being shortened, or being a menopausal Heidi. Polly might bridge the gap from cute toddler to adult, but it'd be horrendous with my surname. I also wouldn't like being referred to as Pol.

My own DCs got horrible shortenings at school, but as adults everyone seems to use their full names (which aren't long anyway)

@Crunchymum not a fan of Posy, thank you for the suggestion though

I like Flora the best out of your remaining three. But they're all nice names

pancakesandpepsi · 25/04/2023 15:44

Thanks guys. We have ruled Beatrice out so it’s down to the other three now :)

Love Beatrice but hate Beatrix it's unnecessarily tricksy

This

@pancakesandpepsi associating flora with the margarine only ever seems to be a problem on here. In real life it’s not something people think about

It is. I wanted to call a girl Flora, 27 years ago and my DH vetoed it for the same reason. We had a DS.

Elspethelf · 25/04/2023 15:28

Heidi would be my choice

Crunchymum · 25/04/2023 15:27

The only Beatrice I know is not a Bee / Bea (she is a Be-Be!) and the Beatrix's I know (yes plural) are both Trixie's

Don't pick a name based on a preferred nickname.

What about Posy?

mathanxiety · 25/04/2023 15:02

One further question...

I'd definitely choose Beatrix over Beatrice.

mathanxiety · 25/04/2023 15:01

Flora is gorgeous.
Beatrice is nice.

Heidi and Polly remind me of goats and parrots, unfortunately.

pancakesandpepsi · 25/04/2023 14:51

So we have narrowed it down further, it is now between:
Flora
Heidi
Polly

Any final thoughts?!

Beatrix > Beatrice in my opinion.

pancakesandpepsi · 22/04/2023 21:44

@HuntingoftheSnark thank you for the reassurance! It seems Flora often gets bad press on here due to the marg association but nobody bats an eyelid at Henry so I’m grateful for your reassurance! Hopefully wouldn’t be too much of an issue in real life :)

@bearfood that’s great to hear, having a hard time persuading DH but I adore the name Polly

I have a 16 year old Polly and she is loves her name as she's never met another and likes being different but not 'out there'

Viviennemary · 22/04/2023 15:49

Not overkeen on Polly.,the others are ok but a bit tired now.

35andThriving · 22/04/2023 15:48

I prefer Beatrix over Beatrice.

I like that Beatrix ends in an x, and if I had a daughter I would say "I love you so much, I gave you a name with a kiss in it!".

VincentVaguer · 22/04/2023 07:32

Local very prestigious independent girls school near me - Beatrice (Bea), Polly and Flora all well represented. No Heidis.

waterlego · 22/04/2023 07:25

I like all of these. Flora is my least favourite (marge). Beatrice is nicer than Beatrix IMO. I know an adult Polly and a child Polly and think it’s a great name.

HuntingoftheSnark · 22/04/2023 07:22

I'd go with Flora Beatrice - both lovely names and sound good at all ages. I think Flora is beautiful and no more a margarine than anyone called Henry is a vacuum cleaner.

pancakesandpepsi · 22/04/2023 06:59

@MyBloodyMaryneedsmoreTabasco we must have very similar taste! They are all gorgeous names.

@Ooolaaaala oh dear, this is one of my concerns! Although I guess kids will always find a way if they want to.

Love Beatrice and flora.

Not keen on polly and Heidi

Ooolaaaala · 22/04/2023 06:11

I know a Flora (in her early 20s now) - nick name through out school has always been ‘Marge’
