How popular is Piper?

I love the girls name Piper, and I’m considering calling DD this. Is it an unusual name? Because I haven’t met any. Is Piper a nice name? Do you know any Pipers, and if so, how many, how old are they and where abouts are you in the country? I live in a suburban area in London, and I can’t remember hearing the name so hopefully it will be nice and unusual. Opinions are welcome ❤️

My DD is 7 and there is a Piper in her class. We're in South Wales.

Thelastofbus · 16/04/2023 20:14

It's actually an old English name meaning pipe player

I’m not entirely sure this is being said seriously or not, but it made me
laugh! “hi my name’s Piper, it’s an old name meaning piper” 😜

Skybluepinky · 16/04/2023 20:12

shutthewindownow · 16/04/2023 20:06

I have a Piper who will be sixteen in September. She was born in Devon when we were living in East Cornwall. It's actually an old English name meaning pipe player, just has been more popular in the USA. I found It in the Fourty thousand and one baby name book and fitted my requirements for being unusual enough and went well with Kricket elder daughter's name and totally outing.) It was my second choice of name for her as the first choice would give an unacceptable initial sequence. We have met one other Piper many years ago. I'm obviously bias but she is a delightful girl and the name really suits her.

Are you saying that your other daughter’s name is Kricket or have I misunderstood / is autocorrect involved?

CombatBarbie · 16/04/2023 20:06

Only know the name because of the charmed ones, but I like it

Purplecatshopaholic · 16/04/2023 20:02

My friends daughter is Piper. She’s 17, living in Scotland. Lovely name.

Don't know any but I know it was used in Charmed as one of the main characters names which a lot of people who are in their 30s now watched so I recon it would become popular soon. A friend of mine wants to use it for future DD

Charmed was my first thought, loved that show!

@ZoyaTheDestroyer , look on local free sites and you'll see things like Dinning Tables and Filling Cabinets listed.

I know someone who has it as a surname, they get very annoyed when lots of people can’t pronounce it! Pip-er

I am fascinated by this.

piper is pie-per, rhymes with swiper because of the split digraph i_e. Are you saying they pronounce it pip-er, to rhyme with zipper?!

Oldermum84 · 16/04/2023 19:44

Love it. Never met anyone with the name.

Sadiegirl87 · 16/04/2023 19:40

COPPER3 · 16/04/2023 19:32

I like this name! I like the fact that it is unusual. I haven't met anyone (or pet) with this name. Go for it!

Fudgewomble · 16/04/2023 19:29

I only know a (very nice) dog in the Uk and a few Americans

I only know one, she’s 7 and from Yorkshire.

FayCarew · 16/04/2023 19:24

It's a surname. Will get shortened to Pipe or Pipes.

newusernamegloria · 16/04/2023 18:46

I know a couple, I'm in the US. It's also a type of plane, so some people choose it for that, like Piper Palin, Sarah Palin's daughter

anonymouschef · 16/04/2023 18:22
