Just as long as your surname is not Hunt!

Both are lovely names and not heard as much these days

Yes you raise a very valid point!!

Michael is by far more handsome than Matthew.
Michael is less common

fairycupcakes · 13/04/2023 23:21

Michael. A few nn options too! Mick, Mike, Mickey or Mikey. Michael itself is lovely and classic and I wouldn’t shorten it but it’s likely inevitable that it will be so it’s nice to have several options

as in Michael Jackson? I bloody hope not.

Confused

as in the ancient name Michael I'd imagine.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 13/04/2023 23:09

Michael. By a loooooong way.

wineshouldonlybered · 13/04/2023 23:01

I love the name Matthew.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 13/04/2023 22:42

Definitely Michael

IsThePopeCatholic · 13/04/2023 22:34

Matthew all the way….

emmathedilemma · 13/04/2023 22:34

Matthew, it’s solid and timeless and works across all age ranges.

sunshineandshowers40 · 13/04/2023 22:33

Matthew

SophiaSW1 · 13/04/2023 22:32

yikesanotherbooboo · 13/04/2023 22:26

I like them both but I would go for Michael.

Jenniferturkington · 13/04/2023 21:59

Both were in my class in the eighties. But I do quite like Mikey.

wellhi · 13/04/2023 21:56

Really like Michael. Cute nickname options when young and I've never met an adult Mike that I didn't like.

Matthew is fine. I just find it a bit wet.

Goodfuckingriddance · 13/04/2023 21:53

Matthew ❤️ so much so I named my boy it.

LivingNextDoorToNorma · 13/04/2023 21:47

I love Michael. One of my favourites.

escplc · 13/04/2023 21:45

Matthew.

We have a Matthew. He fits his name so very well. It means "Gift of God" and it's truly fitting for him.

It's certainly a while down the line yet but husband is an engineer and I can't help but think that Matthew is an appropriate and potentially laid back name (if ever shortened to Matt which we also love) to follow in his fathers' footsteps!

SparkyBlue · 13/04/2023 21:41

Both are lovely classic names. I'd personally prefer Michael.

Funnyfive · 13/04/2023 21:39

I seriously considered Michael for my son when he was born nearly 20 years ago, I was going to call him Mikey out of the Goonies. Matthew was also on the list as I liked Matty as a nn. In the end we called him Noah, very rare then, not so rare now!

Magnoliasky · 13/04/2023 21:39

Matthew
