Would I be crazy to change my 10 month baby name

Baby boy 10 months old. I feel like I sorta regret his name Choice and was sort of pushed into it as spent ages looking at options. Would I be crazy to change it now....

You should give your child the name you love

We had some neighbors when we children who called one of their daughters Sharon in the 1970s and after some time changed it to Rebecca. I am not sure how old she was but she was older than baby age. They told us about this when they moved in when she was already about 10. Even as kids we were interested for about 30 seconds. At 10 months a baby would easily adjust. Maybe transition by calling him both names for a while as in “New name - old name” and as he gets acclimated just drop the old name.

Wow, i expected people to tell me no lol! I got some serious thinking to do. I don't feel he suits his name. It's a lovely name but I wish I had gone with my initial love of a name

Baby knows their name: but they also know the ton of nicknames we give our kids. Even dogs have multiple names we call them.
If you change baby name now people will just get on board if you say so. May take a little adjustment but realistically it's not a problem.
My son is 7 and has asked to be called a few random names up to no. And bizarrely everyone gets on board without us even asking. It's a nickname for a few weeks but they still call him this. Which is quite nice really

I would do it now whilst you can still change the bc

fairycupcakes · 12/04/2023 23:23

Surely baby knows his name as it is though? That would be my only reservation. That being said if you are feeling upset and you truly feel regret and baby’s other parent is also in agreement then you should do what makes you happier x

Do it

Dassams · 12/04/2023 22:26

What does his dad think?

barca123 · 12/04/2023 22:21

Go for it - no big deal in the grand scheme of life

JustKeepSlimming · 12/04/2023 22:14

A friend of mine did this when her baby was about 11 months. She'd named him a slight variation of a more common name, and people kept getting confused, so in the end she just changed it to the more common name. Think it was a straightforward process and the baby didn't seem to care!

Eggseggseverywhere · 12/04/2023 22:09

Would the change be drastic? Years ago my mate had regrets. Used his first name +middle name for a while then just his middle name.

Comfies · 12/04/2023 22:08

No, not crazy. Do it sooner rather than later.

Also baby name regret can apparently be a symptom of pnd so look out for anything else. Chances are it's just baby name regret though and nothing else - just remember reading that and thought I'd pass it on

QueenSmartypants · 12/04/2023 22:06

No,not if you want to
