What do you think of Kyran for a boy?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It will be pronounced/mistaken for Kieran all the time. Are you trying to make up a longer name to get Kai from as a nickname?

Meant to add, if you are trying to get nn Kai people might be able to come up with other suggestions eg Malachi/Mordecai?

Wetnwindy · 11/04/2023 13:52

No .

TheDuchessOfMN · 11/04/2023 13:47

It’s awful. I would reconsider.

justanotherdrama · 11/04/2023 13:43

PotKettel · 11/04/2023 05:51

no it’s daft and will be constantly mispronounced as Kirren.

I agree
Why do people want to make up weird names?
My sister did that with one of hers.....
whenever they went anywhere and she wanted a pencil/keyring with her name on there wasn't one, she's 19
Now and has actually changed her name as it was so ridiculous!

Topseyt123 · 11/04/2023 12:54

Not my cup of tea. You'll also be consigning yourself and your child to a lifetime of always having to explain and correct.

I'd say don't.

inkworks273 · 11/04/2023 11:25

Thank you everyone for the feedback. I'm surprised so many people hate it so much. Glad to see some people who know one in real life like it Smile

Bad.

Folkishgal · 11/04/2023 11:16

This is my friends little boys name and I love it! I think it sounds lovely too ❤️

There are enough names about:
Why make up an ugly one?

The OP didn’t make it up. I know one.

MintMa · 11/04/2023 10:31

A snooker fan would know how it's pronounced 😉 I quite like it, there's at least 2 in school. It's not that uncommon.

redbigbananafeet · 11/04/2023 10:18

No, it's awful. It sounds like a muddled Karen and Kieren and Bryan.

hmrcwoes · 11/04/2023 10:11

I know a couple of people with this name pronounced how you have said. I like it and it's spelt how it sounds so no issues in that respect

WimbleOfWombledon · 11/04/2023 10:10

DS has a Kyran in his class - people read it and assume it's 'Kier-an' so he's always having to correct people's pronunciation and spelling of his name.

Personally I wouldn't use a name that the kid will always have to be correcting and spelling out for people.

I really like Kieran or Kier though.

BangingOn · 11/04/2023 10:09

I really don’t like it. It also reminds me of the little boy who disappeared, Kyron Horman.

FluffMagnet · 11/04/2023 10:05

Agree that its a marmite name. It's not a name I like, but given the popularity of similar names (Kieran through to Kayden) there will be a good number of people who will like it. Either way, you and he will need to resign yourselves to a lifetime of misspellings and misprounciations, although that is the case with many names (DD and I bother suffer from this).

Spinige · 11/04/2023 09:55

As its not obvious how to pronounce it, it will likely cause your son unnecessary irritation

SophiaSW1 · 11/04/2023 09:44

If you like it use it. To me it sounds a bit chavtastic. But luckily everyone is different.

shadowchancesassy · 11/04/2023 09:43

I like it, it's different Smile

lljkk · 11/04/2023 09:41

It's pronounced kai- ren. Like Byron.

My neighbour's grandson who is ... mid 20s now, that's his name ("Kai run"). It's Fine by me. People will get used to it.

Friend has a son called something like Kirran, it's Indian not meant to be said same as Kieron. I can't for life of me hear the difference but it's obvious to friend. Kyran is definitely possible to hear as distinct from Kieron/Kirran, at least.

MissMarplesbag · 11/04/2023 09:36

Yes it's a bit of a marmite name, I don't like it to be honest. There are nicer names out there.

StagsLeap · 11/04/2023 09:36

I wouldn’t give a child a name that is likely to be mispronounced in your eyes because it so strongly resembles a well-known name which is pronounced differently. Most people will say ‘Ciaran’.

FatGirlSwim · 11/04/2023 09:35

user1492757084 · 11/04/2023 08:16

Byron is much better.
Kiernan I also like.

What if Kyran marries a Karen or Kylie or a Kieran!

You could say that about literally any name! What if Jane marries Wayne, what if Olivia marries Oliver, Ava marries Ivo etc.

MrsKeats · 11/04/2023 09:34

FatGirlSwim · 11/04/2023 09:33

It is a legitimate name, pronounced as the OP says. I know one who is about nine.

It doesn’t matter whether anyone here likes it, if you like it.
