Is this name bad?

Recently found out a good friend is planning on naming their child:

Sage Ella Smith (surname changed, though I don't know why as it's a ridiculously outing thread anyway!)

I, and some of our other friends think that the two names individually are lovely, even if they aren't to our taste. However Sage Ella together sounds like a disease or such.

Are we wrong? It's a conclusion we've all come to seperately though all agree on.

Do I, or another friend mention it?

Obviously name changed for this!

I am failing to see the issue

Ok just googled it and seen that sagella is a Medicine. I have changed my mind, maybe they can add another middle name so that it’s sage x Ella

Not sure why adding 'Ella' is so bad. Bit of a stetch to say that Sage Ella sounds like a pathogen just because salmonella is a thing.
I thin Onions is the only middle name that should positively be ruled out.

Rule for life, really. Don't call your child Onions.

I agree it is a terrible name but I wouldn't say anything.

My friend wanted to call her DD Calista like Calista Flockheart. Until her sister told it sounded like an itchy vag rash! 😂

Scotlasss · 10/04/2023 20:11

It’s literally none of your business

Wfhandbored · 10/04/2023 20:10

Fuck me with friends like you who needs enemies

GiraffeLaSophie · 10/04/2023 20:09

Personally I agree with you. I don’t like Sage and it doesn’t go with Ella (IMO).

However, unless you’ve been asked for your honest opinion (and you know they mean it!) then don’t say anything. It’s nothing to do with you.

I'm not bothered about them finding the thread! Of course that's outing. I'm bothered about it being linked to my other threads. The name was revealed at a gender reveal last week so they're unlikely to know I'm me. Especially as I know at least one other person has already commented to them directly about the name.

You don't care if one of your "close friends" finds this and realises that two of her friends have been discussing how they think her baby name sounds like a disease? And one of her friends has decided to canvas opinion on it.

Sage is fine.
Sage hyphenated with Ella isn't quite as fine but, I suppose, is personal preference.

The young lady in question will, no doubt, change it to her own preference.

UsingChangeofName · 10/04/2023 20:04

What a nasty group of so called friends.

If a parent to be tells you the name, you either politely smile and say something like 'that's unusual', or (if you don't like it) lie and say that's nice.
You don't start a thread on the internet about someone else's choice.

This topic is for parents who are trying to decide whether to name their baby that or not, not for you to comment nastily about someone else's (pretty identifiable) choice.

Mostar · 10/04/2023 20:03

Sage? No.

I think anything with Ella after it will sound like a pathogen, so I'd say drop the Sage and just go with Ella. Not that it's any of my business.

You've changed the surname. They are going to know who they are if they read this. There won't be many people with that combo (which if you are reading this I happen to thing is quite pretty)

I had a cat called Sage as a child (and another called Dill). So I think it’s sweet.

VivaLesTartes · 10/04/2023 20:00

Each to there own you just have to support their decision. But ... If we are here giving opinions... I think it sounds nicer the other way round to be honest. But I am sure this is just me who has a bit of a weird thing with the start and end letters being the same together (e at the end of sage and at the start of Ella) that could just be my brain though. Also I was thinking Sage for a middle name for ours but our coffee machine is called "Sage" - written right across the front that put me off 😅

I know a very fine young man called Sage

I love the name Sage. I like Ella. I do not like them together.

Sage Ella is fine. Sage-Ella would be dreadful.

Seriouslydodgyname · 10/04/2023 19:55

Hence the name change.

They're debating whether it's all first name (hyphenated) or first and middle.

Sage - Ella or just Sage with the middle name Ella? This post will be pretty outing if the mother reads it.

Lovely name, not remotely like a disease. Nobody says anyone’s full name ever!! Most people don’t know other’s middle names. It doesn’t sound like you like this person, the names are fine, you all sound very bitchy.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 10/04/2023 19:53

It’s not my taste but it’s perfectly fine. Back off and hope your friend doesn’t find this thread.

AllTheOtherNamesWereTaken · 10/04/2023 19:50

Definitely don't say. It's rare that middle names are ever used anyway
