Is this name bad?

Recently found out a good friend is planning on naming their child:

Sage Ella Smith (surname changed, though I don't know why as it's a ridiculously outing thread anyway!)

I, and some of our other friends think that the two names individually are lovely, even if they aren't to our taste. However Sage Ella together sounds like a disease or such.

Are we wrong? It's a conclusion we've all come to seperately though all agree on.

Do I, or another friend mention it?

Obviously name changed for this!

It sounds like you WANT her to find the thread and you’re not good friends/are really jealous about her new arrival/are a generally bitchy, bullying group.

I think the name is very pretty, for what it’s worth.

SkyeBlue28 · 11/04/2023 20:13

I think the name is fine and you definitely shouldn’t speak to the parents to be about it. It’s their choice.

hallodarknessmyoldfriend · 11/04/2023 10:10

You sound like a horrible friend.

It's literally none of your business.

Lcb123 · 11/04/2023 08:35

I wouldn’t chose it but it’s none of your business and you sound like a bitchy and bored friendship group. And no idea why your friend has told you the name before the birth of a healthy child

shutthewindownow · 11/04/2023 08:33

You arnt a friend you are nasty. Sage will be her name no one cares about a middle name and Ella is lovely anyway. A disease ? That would be you

I assume I have been deleted for troll-hunting.

I really hope this is a troll.

The idea that there is a bunch of so-called friends not only bitching about their pregnant friend’s naming ideas but trying to rope in strangers on the internet is cruel and perverse.

Delete this if you want MNHQ. It’ll be good to get an insight onto your priorities. What happened to ‘not in the spirit of the site’?

Well said.

mangosaregreat · 11/04/2023 08:03

Don't see what the issue is, it's not your baby. It doesn't really matter if you like the name or not as it's name is nothing to do with you. I just hope your "friend" doesn't find this thread cos what you doing is nasty. The majority of people take time to think of their babies name and are really excited to share it with people, if you don't like the name that's fine but you don't have to be nasty about the name they have chosen

user1492757084 · 11/04/2023 07:59

Sage Ella is fine enough.

It is not ugly nor offensive and if everyone had the exact same taste in names we would all be called the same.

abyssofwoah · 11/04/2023 07:55

Of course you don’t say anything, it’s none of your business!

Hazelnuttella · 11/04/2023 07:38

Are you hoping your friend finds the thread and changes the name but without you having to say anything?

I do agree with you. But I’m not sure there’s any merit in saying anything - presumably they’ve said the name to themselves a lot of times and don’t think there’s anything wrong with it.

They’re completely stupid for revealing early though, will make it psychologically harder for them to change it.

Skybluepinky · 11/04/2023 07:37

Are u really her friend it doesn’t sound like it!

Marchforward · 11/04/2023 07:34

*less!

Marchforward · 11/04/2023 07:34

thegrain · 10/04/2023 19:57

You've changed the surname. They are going to know who they are if they read this. There won't be many people with that combo (which if you are reading this I happen to thing is quite pretty)

You name changing won’t make your friend any else upset to learn her friends have all been bitching about her behind her back.

PurpleAirGuitar · 10/04/2023 23:04

I have three conflicting thoughts about this:

  1. I don't think it sounds like a disease.
  2. I don't think the two names go all that well together.
  3. It's none of anyone's business if the parents both like it. I certainly don't see any reason to "tell them" - there's nothing objectively wrong with the name, it's just not to some of our tastes.
Luredbyapomegranate · 10/04/2023 22:56

I spose you could say you may not realise this but there’s a vaginal wash called Sagella. If that bothers you then how about eg Sage Eleanor.

kitsuneghost · 10/04/2023 21:20

Sage is nice. Ella is boring. Sage-ella sounds like a disease.

cocksstrideintheevening · 10/04/2023 21:03

It has less than fuck all to do with you. I wouldn't want to be your 'friend'.

100% this .

I like those names, both and together.

ZuckerwatterMaus · 10/04/2023 20:43

I can’t actually believe that you are bitching on a public forum about a friend’s choice of name . Do her a favour and take this thread down as it is too outing and keep your mouth shut .

Meandfour · 10/04/2023 20:40

Seriouslydodgyname · 10/04/2023 20:02

I'm not bothered about them finding the thread! Of course that's outing. I'm bothered about it being linked to my other threads. The name was revealed at a gender reveal last week so they're unlikely to know I'm me. Especially as I know at least one other person has already commented to them directly about the name.

I hope they have some real friends who don’t bitch about them online! Christ sake, their name choice isn’t going to affect your life in any way!

Growlybear83 · 10/04/2023 20:39

I think Sage is an ok name but hyphenated with Ella, I agree that it does sound like a disease. I can never understand the need for middle names.

thegrain · 10/04/2023 20:38

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 10/04/2023 20:30

Ok just googled it and seen that sagella is a Medicine. I have changed my mind, maybe they can add another middle name so that it’s sage x Ella

Sagella is not going to be pronounced anything like Sage Ella.

Oigetoffmylawn · 10/04/2023 20:36

I think lots of names hyphenated with Ella sound pathogenesq so I agree. I wouldn't usually say anything to the person, but the fact it's a vaginal wash brand, would make me inclined to.
