Tabitha, Elsie, Eloise, Eloisa, Elodie?

As above- Would like any opinions on these names and middle name either Lily or Violet.

Tabitha Lily
Elsie Violet
Eloise / Eloisa Lily
Elodie Lily

A few others that might make the list but I am on the fence -

Elara Violet
Elora Violet
Luna Lily
Sylvie Violet

Also, if I like names like these, what else might I like ? 😅

OH prefers traditional style names and I would probably prefer more unusual names- the first list are the names we both like- but we both like them rather than LOVE them. Maybe a traditional name with good nickname potential!

Thank you.

boys name is already sorted - Jude.

Tabitha Lily - ok but Tabby or Tibby a bit too much like cat names

Ignoring the middle names, these names just look like a lot of Ellie type names:
Elsie Violet - don't like Elsie
Eloise / Eloisa Lily - Eloise/Eloisa too much of a mouthful
Elodie Lily - unblievably dull and too many Ls
Elara Violet - don't like Elara, Lara is much nicer
Elora Violet - don't like Elora, Laura is much nicer

Luna Lily - awful
Sylvie Violet - ok, but too many Vs

You have great taste if names, I love all of these! We are a big fan of the El names also. I really don’t think you could go wrong with any, all beautiful :) love Tabitha too!

Ruthietuthie · 10/04/2023 01:33

I LOVE the name Tabitha. Tabitha Lilly is lovely.
Congratulations!

Elsie is the shortened version of Elspeth - Scottish.

Remaker · 10/04/2023 01:07

I have negative connotations with Tabitha as the two I know are not pleasant children. Really would avoid Tabby/Tibby nicknames as they are cat names.

From your list I like Eloise the best. Have always disliked Elodie no idea why. I also think Clara is a lovely name.

Elizabeth is nice, but a bit dull. It has so many potential nn but Elsie isn’t really one of them. Once she went to school you might find it turns into Liz/Lizzy/Libby. Or Elly. My SIL tried to enforce an unusual nn for her Elizabeth and it was just a source of stress and constantly reminding people. By the time she was 8 or 9 she just picked her own more typical nn. If you like Elsie just call her that.

Tabitha, Elodie, Eloise, Elara, Eloda,Elora, Suki ( put the kettle on), Luna (tic) - all awful. Ditto Rex (dog?), Jude (Hey), Finn ( n'haddock.) (As for Tabby or Tibby (cat), you must be joking!)

Anna, Lily, Elsie, Elizabeth, Violet, Isabella OK.

You’ve helped by ruining the name Luna for me🤣

I am very biased here but I love Eloisa. Mine is 23 we have never met another. Met countless of the other names suggested. To me that is a negative. I prefer names not massively popular.

Eloisa also hits the sweet spot between unusual and very traditional.

Of the others I dislike Tabitha I just have known to many who can't say / cant be bothered to say it so it comes out like tabi sha. I intently dislike tabi as a nm its a.cat.imo

I dont like Violet it doesn't give me the violent comment many give here for it but I get why people do. For me the V I o sound is hard

Elodie is pretty but will date imo

Elsie is ok but oh so popular

I like Eloise and Elisabeth

I agree with your comments on Eloisa. Have you / does your daughter have any names? It really is beautiful.

I have an Elise, it's a great name 🙂

Tabby and Tibby sound like names for cats

My daughter said the same actually. 😬

She could be a Rebecca in full though and the only one in class, possibly school! It's a gorgeous name. Clara is nice too.

My daughter is an Elizabeth is full. Lizzie if I'm exasperated!

mycatsanutter · 10/04/2023 00:57

@LilyTuesday the odd calling of Elsie over the years just by people that haven't read it properly, ie at the doctor's , but generally no . It's nicely different but not too different imo

LilyTuesday · 10/04/2023 00:56

CallieQ · 10/04/2023 00:51

If you love Elizabeth why call her Elsie?

Erm. Good point. It would be Elspeth wouldn’t it? Or of course Elsie works perfectly fine on its own.

I forgot to mention that OH loves Elizabeth, so we would possibly have Elizabeth with nn Elsie.

Might you like Elise? Tabitha Elise sounds quite nice or Elise Lily

Yes, that’s quite nice actually. Thank you. I wonder if there are issues with people thinking it’s Elsie though? I haven’t met any so I’m not sure!

Sorry, I know these names are very popular right now but I dont like any of them.

Tabitha and Violet are too strong a name in my opinion and also very popular.
The rest are just so wishy washy.
Lily is a lovely but currently so popular.
I've always been on the fence about Sylvie. 😆

I'm like your husband and I like off trend classic names so currently something like.. Sarah, Catherine, Claire, Rebecca, Jane, Samantha, Emily, Anna vein.

Suki? Joan? If The 'J' for Jude works.

His absolute favourite name in the world is Rebecca, but I just know too many my age and dislike Becky! I quite like Clara. Only thought of that name when you mentioned Claire!

Finley (nn Finn) middle name Jude? DH might prefer a longer version, even if a nn is usually used?

We know 2 girls with the name Finley which puts me off slightly. I don’t see it as a female name at all, but I think it’s slowly becoming used for girls , in the way that Taylor and Beau are. Americanised 😆
