As above- Would like any opinions on these names and middle name either Lily or Violet.

Tabitha Lily
Elsie Violet
Eloise / Eloisa Lily
Elodie Lily

A few others that might make the list but I am on the fence -

Elara Violet
Elora Violet
Luna Lily
Sylvie Violet

Also, if I like names like these, what else might I like ? 😅

OH prefers traditional style names and I would probably prefer more unusual names- the first list are the names we both like- but we both like them rather than LOVE them. Maybe a traditional name with good nickname potential!

Thank you.

boys name is already sorted - Jude.

Elodie and Eloise are my favourites from your list.

Cinnamon23 · 11/04/2023 14:05

Elodie Violet.

IfYouLikePinaCoIadas · 11/04/2023 14:04

Elizabeth Tabitha. With nickname Eloise.

ab03 · 11/04/2023 10:28

I have an Elizabeth with nn Elsie and no one has had any problems with that so far in real life! We introduced her as Elsie rather than Elizabeth to make sure the nickname stuck - yet to see if it works at school though! I love Elizabeth but don't really like Lizzie so just wanted to establish the alternative!

From the original list I also like Eloise Lily and Elodie, though would probably go for Violet as mn so there's not too 'ee' endings. From the others you mention I love Sylvie and Clara as well.

I really liked Esther which is traditional and uncommon so maybe a possibility :)

My faves, inspired by your list ...
Eloise Lily
Elizabeth Lily
Tabitha Lily
Eliza Lily
Elspeth Lily
Susanna Lily

Elizabeth Sylvie nn Elsie

Generally I’d avoid all El names because they are so overused, but I think Elizabeth is an honourable exception because it’s so classic and there is such variety of nns - If she wants to be Lisbeth or Buffy later she can be.

Sylvie Elizabeth and Tabitha Elizabeth or Tabitha Violet are also nice.

Don’t like Luna - too close to looney and there are so many similar names Lara/Lena/Leila/Lila/Leah/Lyra

Jemima
Verity
Marianne
Estella
Adela
Genevieve
Tara
Oona

might be others

I have an Eloise and obviously LOVE that name! The only annoying thing was correcting people constantly would write Elouise in her cards but we've mostly got past that now at the age of 3 🙄

Comfies · 10/04/2023 19:27

Tabitha or Elizabeth nn Elsie

WGACA · 10/04/2023 19:26

Eloise Violet 😍

SneezyEvie · 10/04/2023 19:14

Tabitha Lily is really lovely or I quite like Elodie or Eloise Violet.

Not keen on the latter names paired with Lily as there are too many ‘L’s.

Elsie is twee to me.

Eatentoomanyroses · 10/04/2023 18:34

Tabitha Lily is great. A bit like Tiger Lily

Pemba · 10/04/2023 18:32

Eloise is Eh-loh-eez but Louise is loo-eez, so slightly different sound.

Eloise is (I think) the anglicised version of Heloise, famous from the French legend/love story of Heloise and Abelard. Bit like Romeo and Juliet. I've got a feeling it might have been of Greek origin before that.

Whereas Louise, although a French name now, derives from the male German name Ludwig, as does Louis, Louisa, Luis and Luisa.

I think they're both great names.

DuchessOfSausage · 10/04/2023 18:22

They are not pronounced the same, @Hadtocomment . They're a bit alike.
And yes, the spelling matters, it really does, and the Elouise and Elouisa are horrible.

Hadtocomment · 10/04/2023 18:14

When I looked it up it just says Eloise is a French version of Louise. So I assume they are related names.

Hadtocomment · 10/04/2023 18:09

Does it make any difference @DuchessOfSausage ? In that aren't they pronounced the same way? Therefore sound like the versions for today. If they aren't pronounced similarly I stand corrected! Perfectly nice names all of them by the way. Just that I prefer without the El on the front. Maybe just because there's a lot of names starting with El right now. Which doesn't mean they aren't nice, obviously.

DuchessOfSausage · 10/04/2023 18:03

@Hadtocomment , they aren't Elouise and Elouisa. Eloise and Louise are not from the same origin. There was a chart hit of the name in 1968, so it's been known a long time.

Pemba · 10/04/2023 18:02

Eloise, it's gorgeous! Has a great song associated with it too (prefer the Damned version). Elodie is also pretty, but I feel as though it's a passing trend, and already considered dated in France where I think it originates.

I know there are a lot of young girls named Elsie now, but it still has strong old lady vibes imo. Elsa is better, or Elise, or even Ellie (though ubitiqous).

Tabitha is fairly nice, but I still keep thinking of the cat in the Beatrix Potter book (Mrs Tabitha Twitchett, mother of Tom Kitten?).

Sylvie, again, pretty, but out of fashion in France itself. I like Sylvia, the English version, and it's due a comeback.

Hadtocomment · 10/04/2023 17:59

I like Tabitha Violet rather than Tabitha Lily. It just sounds more definite and it's also fun. I like the cat connotations! I keep wondering if all the Elodie, Elouise, Elouisa names will date a lot. Because to me they sound a bit like Louise but the "modern version". I prefer Louisa I think if you're going to go traditional. Bit more compact and still an elegant name.

TurnLeftAtTheBakery · 10/04/2023 16:20

Not Luna Lily that sounds weird like a cartoon character.

I really dislike Tabitha. I think Violet and Elizabeth are good names. I think more weight should be placed on the first name rather than how the two names flow as it's not important as will never be used.

mumonherphone · 10/04/2023 14:52

I know a lovely Tabitha who gets called Tibs/Tibby. I love Tabitha Lily or Eloise Lily they flow really well.
If you like Elizabeth then Violet Elizabeth sounds nice too.

Sleepyandconfused · 10/04/2023 14:16

Tabitha is gorgeous! My Tabitha goes by Tibby, Bea, Kitty, Tiggs… or her full name! I love Tabitha and think it’s rare and quirky and pretty and strong and cool. The best by far on your list (but I’m biased!).

Oncetheystartschool · 10/04/2023 11:13

Elsie is usually a nn for Elspeth, the Scottish version of Elizabeth.

Elizabeth is a very classic name with loads of nn options depending on personality. Liz, Lizzie, Beth, Betty, Liza, Libby, Eliza.

WaltzingWaters · 10/04/2023 11:05

Eloise, Eloisa And Elodie are all lovely. I personally prefer them with Violet as a middle name.
love your boy names.

whatsinanameeh · 10/04/2023 11:02

My name is Elsie, I'm mid 40s so grew up with this Old lady Monicker Long before it got popular again

I was called Chelsea, Elsa, Elise, Elle, Elizabeth, Elspeth, Emma, Leslie 😅 growing up and people just didn't catch my name right

So people will always miss hear this range of names

I'm going to suggest the name I was going to give a daughter if I had one

Evelyn Lily (soft e's)

From yours, I like Elodie Lily Flowers

sparklelikeadiamond · 10/04/2023 10:51

what about Eliza if you like Elizabeth?
