Full name for Dottie/Dotty/Dot

Hi I love the name Dottie/Dot but I want a longer version incase she wants to use later on in life. I'm not overly keen on Dorothy or Dorothea. Can you think of any other names that could use this nickname or could I just use it as a nickname and call her something completely different or would that be odd and confusing for the child?! Thanks!

Dottie’s horrendous for a full name. It’s like calling a child Daftie or Dippie. Nickname, ok, but the OP’s totally right about wanting to give the poor kid a sensible alternative.

As for ‘cute’ that’s only a good thing for babies & toddlers.

My dd is Daisy but we have called her dot/dotty since she was a toddler.. Probably less now she’s a teenager. I absolutely love Dorothy x

I don't like Dorothy it's a name that's sound far too old Almost Ancient for a baby 😅

But she'll only be a baby for a year or so. For most of her life she'll be an adult woman.

And dotty can also mean eccentric, not quite all there - 'dotty old lady'.

I wasn’t being entirely serious. But it is a real, valid name, a form of Dorothy. And much better than the awful Dot or Dotty, in my opinion.

Traditionally, Daisy was a pet name for girls called Margaret rather than a full name in its own right.

I don't think a diminutive of a diminutive works.

I don't think that many people are called Daisy as a diminutive of Margaret nowadays. More like the flower. The Daisys that I know are just Daisy.

If you just view her as a small thing, a little dot, you could call her anything and use Dot -> Dotty as your pet name regardless.
Especially if the first name is anything beginning with D.

If there's a name starting with D that you particularly like, you could give her first and middle names that spell DOT, eg Daphne Olivia Thea. If her surname happens to start with T you wouldn't need the second middle name.

What if you called her something entirely different with Dottie/Dorothy as a middle name. Then, you could call her Dottie but, she has the choice as she grows older to use her nickname or her birth name?

For the record, I love the name Dottie and would go with that as a first name if you have your heart set on it! There will be a whole new generation of names by the time LO grows up remember 😊 x

i think Peridot is really lovely. Odette may work. Otherwise just use Dot or Dottie as a full name. Dottie is lovely and it’s no different from Lottie or Hattie which were nn but now sometimes used as stand alone names

I think anything other than Dorothy or Dorothea is going to be quite the stretch. Though Doris, Dolores, Dolly or Theodora could possibly work.

Dolly is a nickname for Dorothy, so as pp said, she'd have a nickname of a nickname.

I like Dorothy or Dorothea.
