My name was Katharine. I loathed it so much that I changed it by deed poll. I had also never ever been called that and was always known by a diminutive which caused endless confusion.

I just have a total loathing of the name and used to feel irrationally angry at being saddled with it. So it’s a no from me to Katharine!

I’m not a fan of Victoria either but Katharine is THE most horrid name ever imo.

Victoria and Catherine or Katharine are all gorgeous.
I prefer Victoria 11/10 Ori or Vic or Vicki
Catherine 10/10 Cat or Cate
Katharine 10/10 Katie or Kat or Kate

Katherine with an 'e.'
It looks like you've misspelled it otherwise.

It's a lovely name and has lovely variations for a nickname. Eg Kat, Kath ( a bit 60s but you don't hear of it much now,) Kate, Kit, Kitty , Kathy.

Unfortunately this. I've spelt my DC names properly (but not the more common way) and now everyone either spells their name wrong or mispronounces it

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/04/2023 01:17

I prefer the Katharine spelling rather than Catherine. Everyone will inevitably think Middleton if you spell it the second way.

And the nicknames are MUCH nicer.

AnyaMarx · 05/04/2023 01:17

I'm a Victoria. Bloody hate it . Would have preferred my middle name which is Alexandra.

Growlybear83 · 05/04/2023 01:04

I think they're both lovely, traditional names, but prefer Victoria. I know three Victorias of very different ages, none of whom have ever shortened their names. I also know several Catherine's/Katherines, a couple of whom are never called by a shortened form whereas the others are usually called Kate.

Viviennemary · 05/04/2023 00:57

Victoria has had its day and usually shortened to Vicky. Katherine is much nicer.

Verite1 · 05/04/2023 00:54

I love Victoria.

caringcarer · 05/04/2023 00:34

I prefer the Catherine spelling. Why not Catherine Victoria?

PurpleAirGuitar · 05/04/2023 00:15

I love Victoria!

Although the spelling of Katharine you prefer has a long history, I think it is quite rare nowadays and you would make life a lot easier for your DD if you spell it Katherine or Catherine. I quite like it and some of its short forms, but I like Victoria more.

Katherine with and e

I don't think they're timeless. There's nothing wrong with them they are just super dull. They're both a bit square really.

wellhi · 04/04/2023 23:41

Catherine with a C is by far my favourite. Seems so much softer than K which just seems very harsh in comparison. I'm not keen on Katrina for example, but Catriona is a bit better.

Victoria I find a bit dull.

LlamasSitOnPyjamas · 04/04/2023 23:34

My daughter's name is Katherine and every birthday and Xmas card comes with a huge variety of spellings of her name, even from fairly close relatives, we find it hilarious! Victoria is nice too.

fairycupcakes · 04/04/2023 23:28

I much prefer the Catherine spelling but Katharine over Victoria

thatheavyperson · 04/04/2023 22:51

Katherine definitely. Loads of great nicknames too, Kathy is by far my favourite!

FunnysInLaJardin · 04/04/2023 22:39

Even though I dont particularly like the Katharine I know, I far prefer it as a spelling to Katherine.

Overall prefer Catherine though

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 04/04/2023 22:32

Plum is one of those posh girl nicknames that make me wince ever so slightly.

DorritLittle · 04/04/2023 22:24

Plum as in Victoria Plum surely?

I love it. Know several great ones.

I like the Katharine spelling - and it’s not THAT unusual. I know 2. Kate, Kat and Kit are all nice short forms.

Personally I like Katharine better but what’s wrong with Victoria PP?! It’s a perfectly normal name - I’m not mad keen on Vicky but Vita is great and I know one who is Plum.

It’s my name, it’s terrible, I’ve always hated it. The nn over the years have included sticky Vicky, victor, vikram, amongst others. I was in school with several Victorias, none liked their name. Never heard anyone use vita as a nn for Victoria, not one I’d necessarily go to as it’s completely different. Plum as in the bathroom company? Not a great association either.

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/04/2023 22:00

Twoinapod · 04/04/2023 16:08

Katherine -spelled like that though.

Please don’t name your daughter Victoria, she will not thank you for it.

Surely most Victorias are Tori these days, not Vicky? Which is fine.

That said, I think they're both dull as dishwater, sorry. I don't think they're timeless, they're stuck in the eighties.

Findyourneutralspace · 04/04/2023 20:20

Katherine, with Kitty and Kat as nicknames.

WhatFreshHeckle · 04/04/2023 20:13

Katherine is lovely and I prefer that spelling, but any spelling is fine really.

Agree that there are nicer shortened versions of Katherine / Katharine than Victoria
