There was a thread like this a few years ago - I looked for it and couldn’t find it - so I thought I’d start another!

Mine is Rafferty. Loved it. DH vetoed.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Natsku · 04/04/2023 13:55

Aslak
Edvard (with a v - I was watching a lot of moomins)

ChillinwiththeVillains · 04/04/2023 13:54

My kids’ and dog’s names all listed above. My name was very unusual so I thought I had dialled it down a bit. I loved Xanthe but felt I should either be Australian or aristocracy to pull it off properly. We are neither.

Zephan. Absolutely love this name but didn’t fit with our other children’s names at all. Will always love it.

This, and also zephyr 😁

Coffeeandcrocs · 04/04/2023 13:50

Woody
Abel ( awful with our surname )
Ambrose

Mine is Francis, I love it but people saying it is wet and feminine is currently swaying my decision

For what it's worth, I love it!

incitethismeetingtorebellion · 04/04/2023 13:41

Not that I wasn't brave enough, partner vetoed it but I wanted Balthazar for our son. Wouldn't let me call our daughter Persephone either the miserable sod 😂

I know a couple of Balthazars and for such a long name, there are no natural shortenings of it. I like it too.

We used the names we love and ours have more unusual middle names but sometimes I wish we’d used their middle names as first names.

That's nice to know thank you 🙏🏻 we live in Europe and here it's very very rare to shorten even the longest of names so Balthazar will stay this name which is quite fab.. I just love how unusual it is, our daughter is Anoushka so think it fits x

Pallisers · 04/04/2023 13:40

Lysander
Galen

Dh has a very unusual name and no way was he giving his son an equally unusual name.

Anyfeckinusername · 04/04/2023 13:38

I liked but ruled out :

Rupert
Aubrey

But I LOVED

Aloysius. I still love it!

postwarbulge · 04/04/2023 13:34

Church weddings can be a hoot as you find out the bride's and the groom's full list of first names. A couple you know as Sue and Geof turns out to be Hemione Cathcart ffyges and Aloysius Singeon Codpiece

I won't state the name but I got to use it in the end. I gave it to my dog. :-)

Please tell!

escapingthecity · 04/04/2023 13:15

Thaddeus

Alistair
Bunty
Claude

Where do you live that Alistair is a brave choice?

RecklessBlackberries · 04/04/2023 13:10

Felix. I know it's actually quite popular these days, but I can't shake the cat food association and it just feels like a silly name to me.

Also Jasper. Again, quite popular but just feels very not us. Too posh, too feminine and too out of place among our friends.

Overthinkingnotdrinking · 04/04/2023 13:06

Yves. Just imagining a boy explaining he’s not called eve for the rest of his life. Used it for one day in hospital but then went for something a bit less complicated.

Quinque · 04/04/2023 13:06

Diggory.
I read Return of the Native while pregnant.

WildAloofRebel · 04/04/2023 13:04

Ambrose

Omari and Israel, both of which I absolutely love but would be preposterous with our genes.

DarlingG · 04/04/2023 12:56

Ari here too

GenAndWine · 04/04/2023 10:58

You need a dog/cat/lizard/whatever to use the not brave enough/partner vetoed it names on.

Like someone upthread I wanted Claude for my secondborn but DH wouldn’t be persuaded
