What about Noelle?

We love Isabelle and Isabella. Either with no nickname at all or with Bella (for Isabella).

Now many people have told us they are very common. We also don't really care for Izzy or Iz or Isa but think they are avoidable if we offer Bella as an alternative. Or maybe Belle, we don't mind this at all.

Now we stumbled across Noelle. Do you like it better? It is less popular for sure. And we could nickname her Ellie which was on our list anyway.

Thoughts?

The options:

  • Isabella
  • Isabella "Bella"
  • Isabelle
  • Isabelle "Belle"
  • Noelle
  • Noelle "Ellie"
  • something else from our list

I really love Noelle, but not shortened to Ellie, just as a stand-alone name.

How about Joelle?
but if you like Isabelle it doesn’t matter that it’s popular, just use it

It's not a name I've come across much in the UK. In Ireland though it's a common enough in the 60-somethings generation. I find it a bit dowdy and old fashioned without any kind of retro chic. But it might be perceived very differently in the UK.

Exactly. In Ireland, Noelle is an unreclaimed, unchic granny name -- think Brenda, Gladys etc. Ditto the male equivalent Noel. But may code differently in the UK.

i think as a Christmas name it’s ok. Do you like Annabelle or christabel?

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/04/2023 15:33

If she's due at Christmas, yes. If she's not, no.

What about Elizabella? I've only met one and the Charmed women called her baby that as well.
