And we can't settle on a name!

What are people's thoughts on the following for a girl..

River
Halle
Rory

Suggestions welcome too 🙏

We've settled on Madeline Smile thank you for all your comments!

I love Rory for both actually. I think of it as both too because I either think of the male character from Doctor Who or the female one from Gilmore Girls. It's my favourite of your 3 names. Having it as a nickname for Aurora or Ivory or even Lorelai is beautiful imo. Even as a standalone it's good.

I like Halle as Hallie, it looks a little too much like hall otherwise.

River I'm not keen on at all. It doesn't seem like a name.

So Rory for me, but if you don't like the fact it's sort of unisex now then Halle/Hallie. 😊Also I love Madeleine as that is my daughter's name haha! The connotation hasn't been an issue at all for me.

DuchessOfSausage · 04/04/2023 12:26

River - no and will sound silly with some surnames
Halle - no. Hallie is better but still not keen
Rory - ok for a boy

Madeleine and Reeva are much better. Madeleine will be Maddie and Reeva is a bit to too similar to Eva

None of the names are unusual. River and Rory will be assumed to be boys

Oh I like Reeva too! I commented on the other post about Reeva

Dont be put off if people on here don’t like a name. I posted before my son was born with his name and two others. What turned out to be his name was absolutely slated and it almost put me off it. It has just been revealed as the number 1 most popular name in my council area this week and it wasn’t popular at the time. What I’m saying is just because people on here don’t like a name, doesn’t mean people in real life wont! It seems unless it’s Olivia or Jack people on here will have something to say. I posted my girls list the other day and was torn apart as I like more unusual (but nice) names for girls than boys probably. I’ve laughed it off as I know my son’s (now very popular) name got the same response on here! Go with what you like best

I agree completely here.
I have a son called George - like full on normal boring. But I didn't like it to start with. But I hear so many different unique names, that I was never brave enough to use, but they all sound odd to start with but we all get used to after a couple of weeks. Same as using the old names like Fred and Nancy. Kids at school don't care, and everyone will always hate it until it's used, then it's fine

Viviennemary · 04/04/2023 00:33

Rory it's a boys name

Halle not a name AFAIK

River a bit strange but I've heard worse.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 04/04/2023 00:29

Hallie sounds like halitosis ( bad breath)
Reeva is a beautiful name .

CallieQ · 04/04/2023 00:26

River and Rory both boys names
Don't like Halle

miniaturepixieonacid · 04/04/2023 00:03

I like them all. I woukd say River is unisex but more common for boys. I would only use Rory as a nn for Aurora, Aurelia or Lorelai (prob too Gilmore Girls there though!)

How about Hayley, Hadley, Hebe, Raven, Rivkah, Remi, Romy or Raine.

elm26 · 02/04/2023 22:28

I've got a niece called River and she's just the happiest, cutest baba so it's made me like the name purely for her although it's not my cuppa.

Rory is a boys name!

I know 4 Halle's under 10, very popular where I live.

PritiPatelsMaker · 02/04/2023 22:22

Halle

aibutohavethisusername · 02/04/2023 17:51

River

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 02/04/2023 14:26

Not Rory or River as they're mainly boys names and I find boys names on girls quite uncomfortable tbh.

Hallie is... OK. Reba is slightly better.

Love Madeleine and I know a little Maddy.

Mumofgirls2017 · 02/04/2023 09:46

Like River and Hallie spelt like that. Not keen on Rory unless perhaps short for Aurora

Girlsgirlsgirls08 · 02/04/2023 09:42

We also like Madeline / Madeleine but most people we've temperature checked it will have said they associate it too strongly with poor Madeleine McCann.

Similar situation to Reeva although perhaps even more of a strong connotation.

Thanks @GHxx, names are such a personal thing and my DH and I are on quite different pages! He likes very unique names (these three are his suggestions). I actually really like a lot of the names in the top 10/20.. but then people say they're too common! So I'm trying to find a happy medium!

River is too masculine for a girl . For nature ideas I'd probably go Sky, Rain or Willow
No to Rory it's a boys name
Halle mmm no

River and Rory are a definite NO from me.

Halle - prefer Hayley.

user1492757084 · 02/04/2023 03:42

I don't like the masculine sound of Rory for a girl.
Halle and Hallie are lovely.
River is fine though for a boy. I, too, prefer Reeva.

Do you like Brooke, Rhea, Isla, Clydette, Cary, Clodagh, Araxie, Fay, Mirriam or any feminine names of rivers?

Girlsgirlsgirls08 · 01/04/2023 22:41

@TomatoSandwiches that's funny you suggest Reeva, I did a post a while ago about liking the name Reeva and lots of posters said they associated it too much with Reeva Steenkamp and wouldn't use it.

I think it's a beautiful name, I would probably think of Reeva that passed but not in a negative association, she was a stunning young woman.
By the time your baby is at school it won't be thought of and isn't a common name in the UK either.

I'm pleased to hear River is liked! It's funny as I always associated River as a boys name too!

Rivers my favourite. I only know boys called this but think it's quite a pretty name so could work well with either.

I would have said Rory is a boys name too but there is a girl in my sons class called Rory too so there we are.

Good luck with everything 😊

TomatoSandwiches · 01/04/2023 22:38

Reeva
Bay
Sailor
Lyric
Sabrina
