I'm expecting a baby girl and am interested to know what names are coming up in your child's nursery or class (primary school) a lot at the moment?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

There aren’t any names repeated in my DC’s class or year group - two-form entry. I’m in a very multicultural area, though. Even lots of DC from different European countries too.

I've come across quite a few of these names too. Pretty though! Whereabouts in the country are you?

We’re in the South West.

Arthur was the most popular boys name when DS was born but still there was only 19 born in our area. We’ve met 6 of them though!

I like dark greener to look at name trends but it doesn’t help for the names which are really similar such as Amelia, Amalia, Amelie, Emily, Emilie, Lily, Millie…etc. For example, Amelie isn’t overly popular yet it feels it amongst these.

Ava, Eva, Evie, Eve, Aria,Mia, Maya, Isla-the e and an ending names are also popular and similar.

Phoebe seems popular here too atm.

There are 3 Sophie's in my DDs y2 class. No other multiple girls names.
2 Ryan's for the boys.

I’ve noticed on Facebook that every child of my friends seems to be going to Isla’s birthday party. That’s the most common girls name by far where I am.

As a side note, in the lists people have made grouping names together, I’ve noticed a few siblings grouped together. Some people really like one sound and use it for all their children.

I’m south wales.
there are 2 Cordelias in dd2’s class and that’s the only repeated name.

Have 4 dc between ages 4 and 18 and none of them have had an Amelia, lily or Olivia in their schools!

fyn · 01/04/2023 23:29

I have a two year old and a one year old. We know quite a few Ottilie’s, two Lyra’s, a few Emmy’s with a variety of longer names shortened, lots of Evelyn’s and Elsie’s too!

WhatFreshHeckle · 01/04/2023 23:25

In my children's classes there aren't that many repetitions. There might be more than one Emma in a year group. Also quite a few Nathaniels which surprised me. I think there were three in my 5yo's EYFS class.

I used to work in a primary and there were a lot of Ava, Freya, Lilah, Lyra, Isla type names for girls. For boys there were a lot of Noahs and Reubens, usually an Oliver per year group at least as well.

Babies I've met recently have been Elsie x 2 and Teddy
