Having a hard time deciding babygirl's name still...

Both lovely, but I prefer Ella. I probably would have a daughter called Ella but it’s too similar to my own name.

SnottyLottie · 02/04/2023 21:03

Ella is nice but I knew a girl called Ella at school and she used to get called Smella Ella or Ellie the Bellie (she wasn’t smelly or overweight, people are just dicks!).

Eden is very fresh and modern but familiar sounding. I love Edie as a nickname. It also sounds strong and sturdy as opposed to Ella which is a little frilly sounding.

I've only known a man called Eden. It rhymes with Aiden so sounds like a boy's name to me. Ella is overused imo.

Sandwidged · 02/04/2023 20:57

Ellen is very sweet

All the Edens I know are boys. It feels a bit like calling a girl Peter.

Ella is ok, a bit meh.

Any other contenders?

CambsAlways · 02/04/2023 15:29

I’m no help I love both 🤣

DuchessOfSausage · 02/04/2023 15:28

Edie is #83, and Edie #115
should read
Edith is #83, and Edie #115

Vistro · 02/04/2023 12:19

Eden

Newusernameaug · 02/04/2023 12:12

Eden is lovely and unusual

Ella is so boring and there’s been sooo many Ella’s!

DuchessOfSausage · 02/04/2023 12:10

@ParadiseLaundry , it's #91 and on an upward trend. Ella is #20 and on a downward trend, but that could be because some Ellas are something longer on their BC. Evie is #24, and that's not counting the Eve, Evelyn, Eva etc who might be known as Evie. Edie is #83, and Edie #115

ParadiseLaundry · 02/04/2023 08:36

Eden. I think it's a beautiful name and not very common.

Dora33 · 02/04/2023 08:03

Definitely Ella. Don't like Eden .would have thought of it as being a Boy's name

Helpneeded12345 · 02/04/2023 07:56

Ella

AlbertaWildRose · 02/04/2023 01:55

Eden sounds ultra-religious and Biblical to me, as in the Garden of Eden, so I wouldn't use it for that reason.

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/04/2023 01:20

Ella I guess

Eden is a bit low rent (unless you are genuinely religious) but Ella is massively overused. honestly I’d try and think of something else.

ClassicLib · 01/04/2023 20:00

Eden makes me think of Eden Hazard, the Belgian footballer who used to play for Chelsea & is now at Real Madrid. (For those who don’t follow football, he’s one of the most famous players in the world.) I have never heard it used as a girl’s name.

Sadiegirl87 · 01/04/2023 19:42

Both lovely names, I hadn't really heard of Eden used until my little boy started nursery, there are two in a class of 20, one boy and one girl so I don't know if it's coincidence or the name is very trendy at the moment. I prefer Ella myself as I see it more a timeless classic even if it is popular too

shutthewindownow · 01/04/2023 19:42

Ella is really beautiful

SemperIdem · 01/04/2023 19:41

Ella is just so bland.

Eden isn’t the sort of name I’d choose personally, but it has more about it than Ella.

PurpleAirGuitar · 01/04/2023 19:03

Prefer Ella although I'm not crazy about it.
