Lovely

oldnorsesaga · 06/06/2023 21:06

I love this name, but I also like frilly and feminine names.
I like idea of Seraphina with nicknames Sena or Sephy, but obviously I like Seraphina as a name over any nicknames and would only use nn as necessity. I don't really like Sera or Fina, but that's why I won't be putting Sera or Fina on birth certificate, duh.
I also love long names, and don't think long name is bad thing to have.

RightOnTheEdge · 06/06/2023 20:22

I love it because of His Dark Materials so I don't think of it as a frilly, girly name because the character isn't like that.
I like the nicknames Seph and Finn as well.

ourflagmeansdeath · 01/04/2023 13:31

I quite like it 😊Not to everyone's taste but I really do think it's lovely

It's one of those names that feels like a LOT to live up to. Very very girlie, makes you think of angels etc.

It's four syllables...same as Elizabeth...yet that would never be a criticism when it's a very common name like that 🤷‍♀️

Exactly.

Elizabeth, Alexandra, Victoria, Anastasia, Penelope...

Loads of names have 4 syllables and this is rarely deemed to be a problem in MN.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 01/04/2023 08:28

With long frilly names I think you need to imagine yourself shouting it out in various situations and see how you feel about it.

Toddler about to run into the traffic, child lost on the beach, cheering child at school sports day etc etc.

mishmased · 01/04/2023 08:27

I think Seraphina is an absolutely gorgeous name alongside Evangeline. I absolutely love both names and meanings. It may sound frilly but is a very powerful and strong meaning name. If you love it go for it. I'd pick it over Elizabeth.

Tabletoppot · 01/04/2023 08:21

I have a Seraphina, nn Sephy everyone except us/family uses her full name, never been an issue

avocadotofu · 01/04/2023 08:17

I love it, a really beautiful name.

dancingmice · 01/04/2023 08:16

SallyWD · 01/04/2023 08:14

It's a beautiful name with a lovely sound but I'd never use it! It sounds too pretentious and fussy to me.

Yamaya · 01/04/2023 08:14

I think it's a OTT and most people won't bother to say three syllables and will shorten it to something.

dancingmice · 01/04/2023 08:13

I have a Seraphina and she's nn Sephy. Although her toddler brother goes with SephSeph!

Tygertiger · 01/04/2023 08:11

I think it’s lovely but it’s extremely feminine and she might not like that necessarily. I know I couldn’t carry it off myself and it wouldn’t fit with my style.

NashvilleQueen · 01/04/2023 08:00

I don't think there's any need to talk about how Ben Affleck's 14 year old child looks tbh.

MumOf2workOptions · 01/04/2023 07:40

My daughter has a Sapphira in her class everyone calls her Saffy!

I don't dislike it but I'm not mad on it either to be honest.

Wintersgirl · 31/03/2023 23:49

No, it sounds like an oral contraceptive to me!

UsingChangeofName · 31/03/2023 23:36

Awful
Such a mouthful. Obviously people aren't going to use her full name much. How would you feel about that?

JamSandle · 31/03/2023 23:14

It's lovely but for some reason I don't like it.

Starseeking · 31/03/2023 23:08

There is one in my DC Year 1 class. It's such a pretty name.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 31/03/2023 23:02

I just wouldn't be able to stop myself calling her Seraphina Pekkala as she is always referred to by her full name in the books.

It's also a bit frilly for me.

PearlClutzsche · 31/03/2023 22:59

I love it!
But I do love those long, frilly names.

UrsulaPandress · 31/03/2023 22:58

Love it.

Be brave.
