I love the name Cove, but does it suit a girl or a boy?

I don't know what the phrase "You Old Cove" means....but I wouldn't say it's a name.
Would you say it Cove rhymes with Grove or Cove rhymes with Dove?

It's a slang term from the 1920s 30s and 40s for a man, slightly denigrating, like bloke or geyser.
'Some cove tried to sell me a dodgy car, so I told him where to go.'

Not a name

How is it pronounced - like the bay, or with a stress on the last e ? Or in some other way ? Cove as a reference to an older gentleman is falling into disuse but it’s still there, which would put me off.

The first thing that comes to mind is ‘how do you spell that?’ will plague the life of the recipient.

Beach?

Hoppinggreen · 29/03/2023 09:54

Neither

I met a Cove the other day. I can't recall if it was a boy or a girl baby. I think girl, but may be wrong.

Hbh17 · 29/03/2023 09:53

It isn't a name at all - for either sex.

SoupDragon · 29/03/2023 09:52

It's a pet or place name.

Coastalvenues · 29/03/2023 09:52

It's slang for boy or man, one that was up to no good

bussteward · 29/03/2023 09:52

It’s a good name for a cove, not a human.

MrsSkylerWhite · 29/03/2023 09:52

Is it a name?

dreamygirl25 · 29/03/2023 09:52

I like that! I think either.

Coastalvenues · 29/03/2023 09:51

You Old Cove? It's not a name for anyone
