Is Cove a girl’s name or a boy’s name?

I don't know what the phrase "You Old Cove" means....but I wouldn't say it's a name.
Would you say it Cove rhymes with Grove or Cove rhymes with Dove?

It's a slang term from the 1920s 30s and 40s for a man, slightly denigrating, like bloke or geyser.
'Some cove tried to sell me a dodgy car, so I told him where to go.'

How is it pronounced - like the bay, or with a stress on the last e ? Or in some other way ? Cove as a reference to an older gentleman is falling into disuse but it’s still there, which would put me off.

I met a Cove the other day. I can't recall if it was a boy or a girl baby. I think girl, but may be wrong.
