I love the name Cove, but does it suit a girl or a boy?

Either a bit like door would be or glade

toomuchlaundry · 29/03/2023 11:24

Good name for a beach

LulooLemon · 29/03/2023 11:24

Save this name for your pet goldfish

RaraRachael · 29/03/2023 11:23

Neither - it's a geographical feature.

Let's just pluck any word and turn it into a name 🙄

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 29/03/2023 11:19

He’s a right spivey cove.

I’m afraid I’m with the others. Don’t do it

DedicatedFollowerOfFashion84 · 29/03/2023 11:17

Neither. It’s a derogatory term for a male. Sort of a Del Boy unsavoury type of character

Train007 · 29/03/2023 11:15

Neither

Sadiegirl87 · 29/03/2023 11:11

I would imagine it's more for a girl in modern terms, It's very different but if you like it go for it ☺️

Dacadactyl · 29/03/2023 11:06

Well its not a name at all IMO.

Viviennemary · 29/03/2023 11:06

Its a coastal bay or inlet. Not a child's name. Ridiculous.

When Al/Cove has a sibling, you can consider Lagoon. Or Pool. I think they are more unisex.

Or if you don't want unisex, Pool for a boy and Poole for a girl.

Cove for a boy
Alcove for a girl

😃😃

Other way round surely?

Then you can call the boy Al .

Sirius3030 · 29/03/2023 10:40

It's an abbreviation for a respiratory disease that was very trendy a year or two back. Sounds a bit dated now to be honest.

Namechangedforspooky · 29/03/2023 10:38

My first thought was ceilings
at a push I’d guess girl

Snoken · 29/03/2023 10:38

No

Etoile41 · 29/03/2023 10:36

Sorry but that does not sound like a name for a boy or girl

AuntieStella · 29/03/2023 10:35

I wouldn't use it at all tbh.

But if cornered, then boy's name (alongside Guy, Geezer, Sonny etc) but describing someone as a cove isn't as friendly as those three - it definitely a weird sort of man

Winterisalmostover · 29/03/2023 10:33

I'd feel very sorry for any child with that name, but marginally worse for a girl. "He's an old cove - he's a lecherous old man."

JamSandle · 29/03/2023 10:25

I would put it as a girls name.

DahliaMacNamara · 29/03/2023 10:24

Everything most pps have said. Covid, small marine bay, old bloke, possibly one that's a bit of a cad or a bounder, by Jove.
However. Maybe it's a modern thing I haven't kept up with. I thought a recent Arlo sounded like a dairy firm, and of course there are loads of little Arlos about.

Three brothers - Cliff, Cove and Strand.

Tsk tsk, I mustn't give people ideas.

You can always tell which one is Cliff, because he’s the one with a seagull on his head.

Richelieu · 29/03/2023 10:23

It’s not a name, it’s just a word. And yes, it’s also a slangy term for a bloke, a geezer.

You could use it as a name, I suppose, but only in the way you could theoretically call anyone anything.
