Is Atlas a good baby boy name?

So the hubby and I absolutely love the name Atlas for a boy, but is it too out there? Will people think it’s weird? Should that matter? Thoughts please!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Atlas was a giant, so it'll only work if you and DH and very tall people likely to have a gigantic baby.

and rose is a flower so that only works if you and DH are a botanist or have very long thorny limbs?

ilovemydogmore · 28/03/2023 16:45

I absolutely loved it but husband vetod as its a name for something else in his life unfortunately. Go for it OP!

violetcuriosity · 28/03/2023 16:44

Atlas was the name we would have gone for if our most recent baby was a boy, I really love it.

Markasread · 28/03/2023 16:43

Yes

WeeOrcadian · 28/03/2023 16:42

It's marginally better than 'Lawrence' that I've seen on MN today

It's still a "no" from me though

CambsAlways · 28/03/2023 16:35

No

It's a book of maps or a muscly mythological hero with the world on his shoulders. Not particularly nice imo and not great associations.

Atticus is close in sound, and much nicer.

I much prefer Atticus, but I feel like it's better suited to a red setter.

GlassBunion · 28/03/2023 16:32

Please don't .
Your child won't thank you for it.

Soontobe60 · 28/03/2023 16:26

How about ‘Dictionary”?

It's a lot to live up to. Would your husband like to be called Atlas? Would he suit it?

beAsensible1 · 28/03/2023 16:19

i think its lovely,

parrotonthesofa · 28/03/2023 16:19

I quite like it

CastleTower · 28/03/2023 16:18

There's one in my daughter's class! His parents call him Atty, which I assumed was short for Atticus until I saw his peg.

Not for me, but it's kind of grown on me now I've seen it in real life.

KnickerlessParsons · 28/03/2023 16:13

I'd be worried that he might turn out to be nothing like Atlas (ie thin and weedy)!
Wouldn't take the risk.

AlwaysLatte · 28/03/2023 16:00

It's an invitation for teasing at school. He'll probably get called 'map'.

celestebellman · 28/03/2023 15:58

It's a lot to live up to. I would worry about being laughed at if he is not very strong.
Also does sound very try hard.

PrettyMaybug · 28/03/2023 15:53

Hotvimto3 · 28/03/2023 15:51

Thesaurus?

Or 'Googlemaps?'

Hotvimto3 · 28/03/2023 15:51

CalloohCallayFrabjousDay · 28/03/2023 15:48

I prefer Dictionary

Thesaurus?

CalloohCallayFrabjousDay · 28/03/2023 15:48

I prefer Dictionary

Hotvimto3 · 28/03/2023 15:48

Absolutely not

Twoinapod · 28/03/2023 15:44

I really like it, unfortunately I’m not cool enough to pull off having a child called atlas. I honestly don’t think it would be an issue at all. People might be surprised when they first hear it but then it just becomes their name and no one thinks anything of it

PrettyMaybug · 28/03/2023 15:41

Please do NOT call your child ATLAS! Confused

HanSB · 28/03/2023 15:40

I don't like it, similar to if I heard a boy called Wolf, it feels like the parents were trying hard to be trendy.
