Love Sonny
Only problem is surname begins with an s and two syllables
Do you think alliteration is a no go for names?

I quite like it. If people are calling kids Hunter and Roman nowadays I can’t see why Sonny is any different (we had horses called all three of those names when I was young. A friend at uni was called Sunny, short for Suniva.

I love Sonny just not sure on the alliteration aspect

I don't mind alliteration in general but with a name like Sonny I think you risk him sounding like a cartoon character (Billy Bunter territory)

Sorry

Is your surname Jim? Lol or Days?

Seaweed42 · 23/03/2023 12:46

I'd agree it sounds like a family nickname or something.
Also many people refer to their son as 'son'. 'Can you come here Son?'

Always it can be used in a derogatory way as in 'what are you up to over there sonny?' or 'Sonny here thinks he knows everything about everything'

As in Sonny Jim if you google the meaning of that.

Sunny is better. Sonny doesn't seem like a name for a grown man.

You can always call any boy Sonny for a nick name.
Choose another name that sounds better with surname and will be a better fit for when he is a grown man.

I think Sonny is a no go regardless of surname to be honest. It's a nickname. But yes, I think Sonny Smythe doesn't sound brilliant.
