Benedict or Benjamin?

Wondering which one I prefer - definitely will be Ben if its a boy but I prefer Dominic but DH hates it so Ben is all we can agree on.

I like hearing the positive things about Benjamin as that's DS's name .

He is still a Benjamin (he's 4.2) and I think might stay one. Although I do call him Benjabob sometimes and have been calling him Bob a bit recently.....need to reign myself in a bit I think .

Benedict for me, but must confess I have never consider the use children might make of some of the syllables so perhaps might have to reconsider.

This is the conversation DH and I had 3 years ago!!! He wanted Benedict and I wanted Benjamin....ended up with Ben as we both agreed that would be what he would be known as anyway!

I got the casting vote by breathlessly gibbering 'he's Dominic isn't he' about 5 mins after I'd given birth. DH didn't stand a chance...

I like both Benjamin and Benedict, and I particularly like Reuben (which would have been dd2's name, if she'd been a ds).

I also know a pair of brothers called Dominic and Benedict, but for me that'd be taking the monk thing a bit too far.

Benedict is much more distinguished and stylish.

I also like Dominic. If that's your favourite of all SURELY you get the casting vote? I may be sexist and un-pc and all but I did the carrying and the DAYS of AGONY in labour so I bloomin well was going to have the final say

Agree there is nothing wrong with just Ben if that's what he'll be called anyway.

Hi

I just had a Ben ! Ben was also the only name we could agree on. Don't see the point in a longer name if you are just going to shorten it anyway - so he's just Ben.
Having said that my older son calls hi Benson or 'the Benster' !!!
Poor lad- it will probably stick...

We have a Benjamin, a few people have tried to shorten it but we correct them and say that we aren't shortening it.
Totally aware that by the time he is going to the pub with his mates he will probably be Ben.

However - my first boyfriend was Dominic and he was Dom the whole way through school..

Love Dominic too, btw. Benjamin has been hovering in and around the top ten for years, so if you do go for that then just be aware that there are likely to be loads of them at school etc.

I know two Benedicts- one is my son. Both of them are teenaged and go by "Ben" only, although mine is "Bene" (unfortuantely to rhyme with Benny) at home.

I know a Reuben that gets shortened to Ben. That's a bit more unusual than Benjamin but has less ability for school teasing than Benedict.

My dog when I was growing up was called Benedict - what a posh dog we had!

I prefer Benedict, sounds more grown up. If he is going to be called Ben as a child, then it gives him a more mature sounding name for later.

I like Dominic too.

oooh, DS's name never comes up (he is a Dominic - Dom for short), I also liked Benedict but DH was not convinced.

I prefer Dominic, but both that and Benedict are on our possibles list.
