What are your honest thoughts about the name Inès? What comes to mind when you hear it - what connotations?

I am French but my husband is English, btw. We live in the UK.
It would be pronounced Ee-nez.

Thank you.

I think it's nice but it'd get mispronounced a lot.

My first connotation is Blake Lively and Ryan Reynold's daughter who is called Inez which I prefer and the name is also in the song "Betty" by Taylor Swift (in honour of their daughter).

Love it, know one and she's a cool chick.

tatteddear · 20/03/2023 13:44

I worked with an Ines. Loved her and love the name!

PropellerDance · 20/03/2023 13:43

I think of Taylor Swifts song about Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's daughter.

Ines pretty name but you can guarantee the kids at school will rhyme it with penis so it would be a hard no from me.

Except that it is not pronounced anything like penis so I think it's far from "guaranteed" that they would.

causes the child stupid, endless, pointless unnecessary problems, don't do it

It's really not an issue. If online forms don't accept accents, you just leave the accent out. Plenty of people with accents on their names cope just fine!

It's a lovely name, but could be confused with the Scottish surname/boys name, Innes. I'd happily put up with a bit of this to use the name thiough.

Confused there is no punctuation in the name Inês.
Almost all European languages use diacritics/accents in their words. Even English. It just happens that most English speakers leave them out when they're typing.

Makes me think of bellybuttons.

I ve got little Ines. We are European family living in London. We sometimes need to remind staff in her nursery to correct spelling from Inis, Inez variations but otherwise no issues with name or pronunciation.

WinniePig · 19/03/2023 20:25

Love it (along with Flora, Clementine and Lucy)!

Delectable · 19/03/2023 19:22

Had a lovely classmate Ines. She was German.

Catandcustard · 19/03/2023 18:49

It was on my list but I didn't like the meaning 'pure'. I do think it's lovely though, I'm just not a fan of virtue names.

fruitandfibreg · 19/03/2023 18:48

@BernadetteIsMySister my thought too. And she wasn't very nice

ShesThunderstorms · 19/03/2023 18:42

Rinkydinkydoodle · 19/03/2023 18:12

It’s lovely, so elegant. We have a very stylish friend with a daughter called Ines and she was recently telling me she got asked so many times where the name came from and why she chose it she decided to create an Italian Granny 😆Hopefully you live in a less insular area!
