What do you think of this name? It’s always been my guilty pleasure name although I’m not sure why it makes me feel guilty. From Nameberry:

“The name Tansy is girl's name of Greek origin meaning "immortality".

Tansy is a flower name rarer than Rose, livelier than Lily and a lot less teasable than Pansy.

Tansy is a perennial herbaceous plant of the aster family that has clusters of small bright yellow blossoms. It was cultivated by the ancients for medicinal purposes, and has found a variety of other uses over the ages, associated with health and immortality.

There have been a couple of eponymous novels titled Tansy, and it was the name of a character on Hart of Dixie.”

I like it phonetically but it is a very bitter tasting herb associated with miscarriage, so personally I wouldn't use it

Absolutely beautiful! However I would spell Tansie. Its a gorgeous, unusual name.

Why? It's a flower name. Tansy is the standard English spelling. That's like saying you'd prefer Daisie to Daisy.

I knew a Tansy once. She'd be in her mid 60s now. Lovely name. Never met another one.

I've only known one Tansy in my life, she was a real free spirit and I really liked her. Go for it!

Luckily most people can read, I don’t understand your mispronouncing logic.
The name doesn’t have any ‘m’s in it and has and clearly has an ‘s’ - I’ve never heard anyone point to a Pansy & say look at all those colourful Pammy’s!

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/03/2023 13:46

It’s sweet like Poppy is sweet. To me it’s twee, but if you like Poppy and Lily type names there’s nothing wrong with it.

ourflagmeansdeath · 19/03/2023 13:44

I personally don't like it at all but that's probably just me haha😊

Fifiesta · 19/03/2023 13:39

I have loved it for ages- go for it!

IHeartKingThistle · 19/03/2023 13:37

In the original Topsy and Tim books Tansy was their adopted little sister. It's a cute name.

MrsMoastyToasty · 19/03/2023 13:37

I think a lot of people would mispronounce it as Tammy.

Trixiedrum · 19/03/2023 13:35

Tansy tea was a herbal mixture intended to cause an abortion in the Middle Ages. I guess it’s an obscure reason to dislike a name but still, I do dislike it

Maybe a different plant name?

OrlandointheWilderness · 19/03/2023 13:29

Ohh like it! Very unusual. I've heard of the plant but I don't think I've ever met a Tansy.
