The same initials? Opinions

Hi, I posted here a few days back about naming by 2 week old baby Lucy, there was mostly positive feedback and I've pretty much settled on the name. My name is Louise and someone pointed out that we'd have the same initials. This isn't something id even thought about and a few of my friends share initials with their children so didn't feel it was a big deal. What are your thoughts on having the same initials? Also do you think Louise and Lucy are too similar? Ive always liked the name so wasn't phased but now I'm questioning everything before we get her name registered!

I have the same initials as my brother. Never had any problems.

I have always lived with people who share my initials - DBro, DH and DD. At one point my flat ate had the same intitals and similar surname. DH and are are the same first 2 initials and surname!

It was once a small - and easily resolved - problem in about 1980. A problem that now won't exist due to digital banking. So not a problem at all!

Thanks everyone for your responses think I just needed some reassurance!

I have the same initial as my dad. It annoyed me growing up, when he occasionally opened my post, but not much comes in the post these days. I have now have given my dc the same initial as me as love her name.

Lucy is a lovely same. My DH and DS have the same initials and I think it's quite lovely

Not An issue with my daughter as have
miss and Mrs. Wouldn’t do it if it was another sibling of the same sex though.

Leafblow · 17/03/2023 05:27

Its really fine, I have the same initial as both my parents and one of my siblings. It has never been a problem.
The letters thing will continue to be even less of an issue, I have had no post in the last 6 months because pretty much everything is paperless.
Never got mail confused when I lived at home, medical letters have your full name on.
Lucy is a lovely name and not that similar to Louise.

It isn't a big deal.

Not an issue at all.

My mum and I share initials - it's no big deal OP.

Most mail is addressed with full name or at least title anyway (Miss L Wilson / Mrs L Wilson) and by the time she's really old enough to have mail being sent just to L Wilson she'll likely have moved out!

It's actually quite useful now in adulthood for us doing favours for each other - collecting parcels etc.

Lucy is lovely. Congratulations!

My DD1 has a name which means the same as my name and we share an initial. It's never been an issue. She is an adult now and goes by a shortened version of her name.

cheeryios · 17/03/2023 04:34

It's really not an issue OP. Why would it be? It'll never be a problem.

Although, my son's initials are VAG and I hadn't a clue until someone on MN mentioned initials years ago and I clocked on Blush
