Thoughts on Max McCann

My DH and I have found out we are having a little boy, we cannot agree on a name. I wanted something more traditional my DH is siding towards unusual as our surname is McCann. He loves the name Maximillian McCann, but realistically the name will be shortened to Max, which I am not 100% keen on, my question, does Max McCann sound like a ridiculous name? do the first and surname sound too similar? I also like Jenson/Jensen and interested to know your thoughts?

Can someone get a message out to all of the McCann families to let them know that they can't use 'M' names until further notice, please? Hmm

OP didn't even ask for the connotations. She just asked if the name sounds ridiculous because the first and second parts are too similar .

KirstenBlest · 22/03/2023 13:30

If you looked at the name M McCann, you might.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 22/03/2023 08:13

Would people look at a boy and be reminded of Madeleine McCann? I certainly wouldn't.

LethargeMarg · 20/03/2023 22:51

I also thought of maddie. My kids all know who she is as well as it's still such a news worthy story I don't think it's one that'll be forgotten any time soon so kids would possibly make the link

maddy68 · 20/03/2023 22:50

Inrekkynkine max and Jenson with mccaan

SkyeBlue28 · 20/03/2023 22:43

I think Max McCann sounds good.

Sadiegirl87 · 18/03/2023 22:53

I really don't think people would associate it with Madeline McCann, it never crossed my mind until it was mentioned here and even then I don't agree.
I think Max McCann is a great name and if you like it go for ita

I just don’t really think it would be an issue

If OP thinks the same then she can use the name, it's still lovely. I was just stating my thoughts as the thread asked to say. 😊

I feel like it's pretty obvious what connection there'd be. Most parents wouldn't want their child to be thought of with a poor missing child. There'd be a lot of odd comments made and it'd just be quite a sad name to have.

ourflagmeansdeath · 18/03/2023 21:13

I still quite like the name Max McCann so if the connection really doesn't matter to OP, then it's a good name to choose 😊

@ourflagmeansdeath what would it matter if teachers or others made a connection? What connection would there actually be?

Max McCann is BRILLIANT! I think alliterative names are always good, and Max is the name I would have used if it didn't sound like a joke with our surname.

XanaduKira · 18/03/2023 19:14

I love it - Max McCann is such a cute name!

flexigirl · 18/03/2023 19:07

I think any first name beginning with an M with your surname doesn't resonate well because of madeleine mccann

PeekAtYou · 18/03/2023 19:05

I like Max better- Max McCann sounds like a Marvel character with an interesting backstory.

McCann is a really common surname. It’s quite sad to suggest that someone of that name should avoid ‘M’ names because of Madeleine. If you knew a Max / Michael / Maisie / Martha McCann in real life the association would soon be replaced by your knowledge of them. That poor child is not a reason not to use a perfectly lovely name like Max McCann.

You are so right. It is unfair to presume that the child would be somehow at any disadvantage with an M name.

Max McCann is an excellent name!

LlynTegid · 18/03/2023 15:06

Not Michael or Mark if it should begin with an M?

barca123 · 17/03/2023 18:22

No kids will make that link though

But teachers and many adults will. Also Madeleine McCann is popular enough that by the time he's in his teens, his peers will make the connection too.

Thought it was just me but yes this was my first thought too

Mine too

BlueSeaWave · 17/03/2023 22:12

I am an other one that really likes the sound of Max McCann and I really dont like Jenson as a stand alone name

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 17/03/2023 22:10

Jenson is terrible so Max purely on that basis.

35andThriving · 17/03/2023 22:06

Sounds too much like Mexican for me personally.
