  1. Timeless, earthy name suggestive of wisdom.
  2. 'Haze' 'Hazey' or, jokingly 'Filbert'.

I love it actually, it's really pretty and lovely. I really don't think there is a need for like a fulltime nickname - as in a nickname where the full name is never used. But if you really want a nickname, then the one I know goes by Hayley or Nutella every now and then!

REP22 · 15/03/2023 14:22

It's a lovely name. I know a few Hazels and they're all lovely people. Plus Hazel (although a male) is the name of one of the heroic rabbits in Watership Down.

Having said that though, my dad did go to school with a girl named Hazel Nutt, though that was on the poor thing's parents and not her.

cstaff · 15/03/2023 14:06

I like this name and off the top of my head I can think of three people of different ages named Hazel, one is in her 50s, the second is in her thirties and the third is only 5 so I don't think it ages like some names.

BatFaceOwl · 15/03/2023 13:58

I don't really like the name. It's incredibly bland

BasiliskStare · 15/03/2023 13:46

I think it is nice - If I had one could imagine ( nn) Hazelnut as a baby and then probably the odd Nutty. But I rather like on Gogglebox the way Giles calls his wife Nutty - I think it is rather a sweet nickname.

urrrgh46 · 15/03/2023 13:42

lovely name 😃

eatdrinkandbemerry · 15/03/2023 12:25

Not fond of it but only because I think there's hundreds of more beautiful girls names to choose from.

PuppyMonkey · 15/03/2023 12:21

Hmm I realise it’s a name that’s probably having a renaissance but for me it’s a naff dated name - where I live usually pronounced with a missing H.

MyOtherUsernameIsDave · 15/03/2023 12:15

Really dislike it. Feels very dated, very 80s but not in a good way.

Reggiebo · 15/03/2023 12:05

Hi Hazel here....my nicknames hazelnut or hazy

Toddlerteaplease · 15/03/2023 12:01

My colleague has a Clara Hazel which I really like.

LookingOldTheseDays · 15/03/2023 11:44

It's a lovely name. The hazels that I know don't use nicknames, so no need for one.

MissingMoominMamma · 15/03/2023 11:43

I’m coloured by the fact that I had a manager called Hazel who was horrible.

But it’s nice. NN- Nutty.

TurnLeftAtTheBakery · 15/03/2023 11:40

I quite like it. It think it'd one of those names where most will just be called Hazel. You could say Haze but I imagine most don't.

Westfacing · 15/03/2023 11:35

I know a Turkish 20-something called Hazel.

Pammy39 · 15/03/2023 11:34

It is lovely name:-)

AliceTheeCamel · 15/03/2023 11:33

I don't think it easily lends itself to being shortened. Tbh I'm not a fan, but I can't really put my finger on why. Just personal preference I guess.

MyMumsOnMN · 15/03/2023 11:31

Please use the nickname Hazelnut.

Viviennemary · 15/03/2023 11:31

Its a nice name I think. No nicknames needed.

Twoinapod · 15/03/2023 11:30

I like it. I know of one in her early 20s, never had a nn, just goes by hazel, I don’t think it really has one

FineThings · 15/03/2023 11:28

Timetochangetheoil · 15/03/2023 11:19

It’s Watership Down for me but I imagine I’m in the minority!

Me too but that doesn't mean I don't like it!

Zaliea · 15/03/2023 11:27

Hazel is a favourite of mine.

I quite like Zel/Zelle as a nn

Springconcerts · 15/03/2023 11:22

Azeull in the accent where I’m from. It should be a pretty name but my town managed to make it so, so ugly …
