Aria

Now that we are long past the Game of Thrones days I feel like this name has longevity and it feels classically beautiful, like Iris or Elizabeth. Thoughts please

I don't know many Marias (I know 4) and know no Arias.
Classic names don't seem as overused as trendy ones IMO.
Noah and Theo seem very overused, whereas Oliver and James don't to me, probably because I know Olivers, Jameses and Marias of different ages, not just under 18s.

jackstini · 14/03/2023 14:15

I love it

Pinkjellies · 14/03/2023 13:57

I love Aria but it is still quite popular as a baby name.

pinkpanther84 · 14/03/2023 13:49

I think Aria is a beautiful name

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 14/03/2023 13:34

I've never come across a Maria but know there are two Arias in DD's school!

I really like Julia.

AbsoluteYawns · 14/03/2023 13:34

IIRC it's quite a traditional Iranian name...
Do you have any cultural links there?

mibbelucieachwell · 14/03/2023 13:31

I would pronounce Aria as Ah ree ah as it's a classical music word which means 'song'. Often in operas or as the title of a solo instrumental piece.

Wotsitsname · 14/03/2023 13:13

I pronounce it AREia
Julia as another name we toyed with. I think it’s similar but feels more fresh.

What does a nothing make mean?
It means air, like fresh air or musical air, which seems insubstantial, and it is mainly vowels. It blends into all the other vowelly names that are around.

Maria is a classic and Ria could be a short form for it, but there are so many Mias. Rita seems stronger than Ria.

There are soooo many Maria’s though

I think it's nice name

I like it

LivingDeadGirlUK · 14/03/2023 09:32

Are you still pronouncing it like Arya (GoT) but spelling it Aria? Because I would pronounce Aria differently.

I really like Arya but I'm biased as my online gaming name is a name that can be shortened to this and I've had that for 25 years. It's funny though because no one shortened it to Arya before GoT, I was always Ary.

Laurdo · 14/03/2023 09:27

I think it's a pretty name but still very popular.

I think Chloe is a beautiful classic name but 15/20 years ago it was super popular. Maybe Aria will be the same in a decade or so.

Notreadyformenopause · 14/03/2023 09:24

I like it (as in it's a perfectly nice name), but I wouldn't put it in the same box as Elizabeth.

TurnLeftAtTheBakery · 14/03/2023 09:16

I don't think I'd describe it as classic but it's a nice name. It's on trend with being heavy on vowels and short, which isn't necessarily a bad thing although there tends to be more on this forum who dislike that trend than the general public.

I don't get the "a nothing name" comments either especially those saying to remove the "a" as I'm not sure how that makes it more special. I'd much rather be called Aria than Ria.

I think the GOT connection (although spelt Arya) isn't an issue unlike the poor children called Khaleesi.

PearlClutzsche · 14/03/2023 09:16

I've never met anyone called Aria. It's a song, isn't it?
I didn't know it was used as a name. It certainly is not classic.
I don't really like it, tbh.

ElizaSkye · 14/03/2023 08:37

I think it’s gorgeous and shares the elegance of Iris and Elizabeth

(but then I have both Iris & Elizabeth in my daughters’ names!)

Lovelyring · 14/03/2023 08:36

I think it's a perfectly nice name but I don't think it is classic at all. I think it very much fits with the trend for really vowelly names that we've had recently, and eventually will fall out of favour as more consonants come back in to fashion.

I think Iris is also part of the Granny chic name trend and will also fall back out of favour.

Elizabeth is classic.

I don't think it matters though. My favourite names are 80s names which aren't popular at all at the moment. Just use what you like.

Communionmom · 14/03/2023 08:04

I have a 9 year old Aria who is the complete opposite of delicate and the name totally suits her!

Zola1 · 14/03/2023 08:01

Wotsitsname · 14/03/2023 07:51

It gives me classic vibes, I guess like Julia. The other name I love is Seraphina but I’m worried it’s too thrilly

I don't like Seraphina it sounds much too try hard. Aria is lovely!

PeekAtYou · 14/03/2023 07:58

The GoT name is Arya. I'd assume that you liked opera or if this was 10 years ago, Pretty Little Liars.

Iamclearlyamug · 14/03/2023 07:55

Wow some people are so mean! My 1 year old niece is called Aria and it's a beautiful name and really suits her 🤷‍♀️

PacificallyRequested · 13/03/2023 13:03

The name from GOT is Arya, not Aria. Totally different pronunciation!
I agree with PP, Aria is a nothing name.

This!
