Hello

My partner is Turkish and I am Welsh, I am currently pregnant with our daughter, my partner desperately wants her to have a Turkish name - he has suggested ‘Dilara’ - the meaning is pretty but will inevitably be shortened to ‘Lara’ over here…

What does everyone think?

I like it.

I also like Derya, Esra and Mine.

Dilara is gorgeous. Dilly is a great nickname.

MissMarplesbag · 15/03/2023 18:38

I know a Dilara who goes by Dilly which is a cute nn.

I like it but prefer Safiye - my friends daughter's name - always been known as Safi
Congratulations 💐

@Lizzie67384 I actually live overseas right now. My husband is half Arabic, half Hispanic. We had a lot of names to choose from!

The Turkish name Esra was high on my list. We had a boy :)

Dilara is a sweet name, I prefer Dil as a nn.

Lovely name! Is your little boy Turkish/half Turkish? Trying to find some families to interact with :) I live in a small town and don’t know any other mixed Turkish families! X

Seren is both a Welsh and Turkish girls name so would work.

I was also going to suggest this!

But I think Dilara is a truly beautiful name too, and I love Dilly as a nickname.

mumonherphone · 13/03/2023 12:06

I like it and would call her Dilly

FayCarew · 13/03/2023 11:57

The daffodil is Narcissus 'Manon Lescault', named after a french opera.

Dilara is nice but a lot of people go by Lara and shortened it so now they just name them Lara instead. I like the names Mina, Ayla, Mira, Ayda, Serra, Leyla, Alya, Arya, Ela and Naz. Girl names are lovely in Turkish and easier to pronounce in the UK than boy names.

Dilara Manon - Manon is a daffodil - flower of wales.

Amdone123 · 13/03/2023 11:41

Dilara is lovely, as is Ayla and Alara.
Beautiful names.
We have an Esra.

WhisperingAutistic · 13/03/2023 11:38

I think it's nice

user1492757084 · 13/03/2023 11:38

Dilara is sweet.
I love Dilly and Dil and Dilara

Luana1 · 13/03/2023 11:34

I love the name Ayla, which means moonlight I believe.

Lifeisnotabedofroses · 13/03/2023 11:30

Melisa is another one. We picked that it had 2 boys. Male names much harder!!

evemillbank · 13/03/2023 11:21

I used to work with a Dil and I think she was called Dilara or very similar. I like it
