Harry?

DH suggested a baby name that I 100% said was not happening. His next top name is Harry and I'm not against it but not 100% sold for DS due in July.
What are your thoughts? Too popular, too plain/boring? Or and old classic?

Thanks all.

How about Harris which is less common than Harry and which makes better sense if Dad’s name isn’t Harry.

PMAmostofthetime · 15/03/2023 19:37

@mumma2oneDD
I only know 1 Harry aged 4 so I don't think it's that common- my job puts me in contact with lots of children and families too and not a popular name through work either.

oneforthemoneytwofortheshow · 15/03/2023 14:39

Bit boring and plain.

pomegranatelover · 15/03/2023 13:55

No offence to anyone who has a child with this name, but to me it just doesn't seem interesting or exciting. There's nothing about it that draws me in. I also think it's overused among the current generation of young people.

North Americans have a tendency to pronounce it as "hairy" which may or may not matter to you.

mumma2oneDD · 12/03/2023 21:47

@Anskl I wouldn't say it's a safe option. It's not like we are toying between something like Atticus, Xavier or Harry and we've just gone "oh Harry, that'll do". DH genuinely likes the name and I will consider it.

@Reddahlias I don't actually personally know any Harry's but understand it is popular. Think it's in the top 10 boys names at the moment.

Not an ugly name, but a safe option - he won't get teased for it

All names can be teased if a bully wants to tease someone! Harry is Hairy, Harry Up Harry, Harry the Fairy etc etc

The biggest issue with Harry is it's overuse. It's become so common and may well start to fall out of fashion.

Anskl · 11/03/2023 00:02

Way too popular.

Not an ugly name, but a safe option - he won't get teased for it and or be asked how to spell it all his life.

An unimaginative 'that'll do' and won't offend name - reminds me of magnolia paint.

Penguinsaregreat · 10/03/2023 21:11

It’s ok. Just that really.

Luredbyapomegranate · 10/03/2023 20:23

Overused.

If you wanted it to be at least classic it would have to be Henry nn Harry

Viviennemary · 10/03/2023 18:29

Nothing wrong with it. I Not Harold that's dire.

mumma2oneDD · 10/03/2023 14:47

@TheOriginalEmu no don't be sorry! Don't worry, I won't be calling him Harold 😆

I like Harry! And I don’t know any small ones actually, they’re all 7+.

Haha loving some of these comments. Cracking me up 🤣

Thank you all so far for the positive (&negative feedback).

I’m sorry, I know names are subjective and so I really try and not be rude about anyones choices as I’m well aware my taste isn’t for everyone… but I can’t let you call a baby Harold 😂😂

Harry is lovely if you think it's too plain how about Harrison?

SallyWD · 09/03/2023 08:36

I like it. It feels like a friendly name to me.

Reddahlias · 09/03/2023 08:24

Hal is short for Halitosis (bad breath)

CurlewKate · 09/03/2023 06:12

Henry shortened to Harry? He's got choices then. There's also Hal.

TheOriginalEmu · 09/03/2023 05:28

TheVanguardSix · 08/03/2023 17:08

Call him Harold or Henry… then Harry or Hal as a diminutive.

Harold?! Is he 89?

Theoldwoman · 09/03/2023 04:51

I like Harry, but prefer Henry if that’s an option.

Nimbostratus100 · 09/03/2023 04:22

I'd go with Henry, then you can have Harry or Hal as a nickname, if you choose to

sunflowerdaisyrose · 09/03/2023 04:19

Harry is a lovely name and I don't know many little ones.

user1492757084 · 09/03/2023 03:23

Harry is a nice name. People won't say it's after Prince Harry.
I love Barry too and it is not overused.

Rainbowbaby13 · 08/03/2023 21:59

I prefer Harrison but Harry is fine

greensbeans · 08/03/2023 20:54

No one will think he’s named after Prince Harry, or probably even associate it. There’s too many Harrys for that association to be made (Prince, Styles, Potter to name a few). It’s a lovely classic name, but it’s somewhat safe and bland. I don’t know any babies named Harry though, everyone seems to be using much more unique names now. Traditional, classic names are much less used than they used to be in my opinion.
