Hello everyone,

What do you think of the name for a baby girl? The dad is Mexican and we are hoping for first name Elodia, not Elodie (Elodia is the Mexican version, to honor his grandmother) but we are gathering ideas and impressions. Middle name with be Catherine, my sister's name. Thank you.

Must admit that I thought of pond weed and it is a bit like 'Hello dear' in English, sorry.

Nobody will know how to pronounce it. Catherine is much better as a first name.

Elodia Catherine sounds calm and the two names go well together.

I think it will be pronounced by most as el-oh-dear. Makes me think of odour straight away. Lovely with the Mexican pronunciation but I think it will be butchered if in England.

I think it depends on the surname as with the middle name it’s quite a mouthful

I think it's pretty but there's a lot of syllables in my opinion, it's definitely a mouthful. I much much prefer Elodie but I get wanting to honour the Mexican side of your family. There's a big chance she'd go by a nickname in this case with 4 syllables so make sure you like those! But it is lovely.

Not overly keen on it really with the pronunciation clarified. But I'm a stranger, if you love it go for it.

Ooh, no. Elodea is pond weed. Spelled differently but sounds the same.
